Ex-House Leader (Dick Armey): Social Security Should Go Away
By GLENN EVANS

Saturday, February 26, 2005

<snip>

TYLER – Former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey said Friday that Social Security should be phased out rather than saved. "I think if you leave people free to choose, it will be phased out by competition," the former Republican congressman from Lewisville told reporters before sharing a President's Day Dinner with the Smith County Republican Club.

Armey, who left Congress in 2002 after 18 years, said younger Americans already believe personal investments produce greater retirement savings than Social Security will.

(And you just have to love THIS observation...)

"If it is such a great deal, why does the government have to make it mandatory," he said.

Nice to see 'ole Dick still chiming in. He may be a major loon, but he's at least he's being honest here. The rePukes want to eliminate Social Security.

4. Yeah? And I think the Congressional retirement plan should
be phased out too!

If these guys are so concerned about the rest of us, why don't they just give up the huge check they each get from us? Most of them don't need it anyway.

6. of course,
HE never will have to rely on SS for his retirement.

I have a better idea. Make ALL current and former members of Congress dependent ONLY on SS for their retirement. If former members scream that they have lost something "promised" to them, tell them that is how SS people feel when they read something like this.

8. I'm guessing that younger Americans...

...believe personal investments CAN produce greater retirement savings than Social Security will. But playing Three Card Monty CAN produce greater returns than Savings Bonds too. Doesn't mean I'd bet the farm on Three Card Monty.

Of course this Dick conveniently avoids the key word.

NGU.

10. i have questioned him personally before
He is such a turd, I have no idea how he got to be that high up in the house as he did cause he is so stupid. He came to our high school my senior year in 2001 and gave us this speech and we got to ask questions. He always sidelines you, never giving an answer. Now, this is in Texas, Collin county to be exact, the hub of all repubs and my AP gov teacher (huge repub herself) was like, what a dick!

11. Maybe it should be eliminated -- but not until after the more than
generous Congressional, Judicial, and Executive pensions are abolished. And that'll be a cold day in Hell!

It's not like it'll be the dividing line between you and poverty.

I like the idea of cutting out all pensions for elected and appointed government officials. Civil "service" should be just that, and your reward the thanks of a grateful nation.

I'll bet Dick thinks that's an absolutely vital government function, though.

16. Dick Armey: ward of the state.
I think of that phrase, from one of Carville's books, whenever I see his fat ass on TV. Armey has been feeding at the public trough from his birth, and he's never stopped. Typical repuke hypocrite.
