Privatization and the 2006 Elections

I think we need to find out where every Republican stands on Bush's privatization plan. I think any Senator or Representative who supports Bush's plan, should be a target in 2006. The more, the better. If we can paint the entire GOP as being anti-Social Security, we could make huge gains. Feel free to help out here.

1. Dave Sund, Welcome to DU!!! Excellent post.

Oh, I see some targets of opportunity in the Senate: MO, PA, AZ, VA,ME, RI and MT. Here in VA, there is no love for George Allen. He just got in because many meat heads remember and worship is father for being a farking Redskins Coach (you know that loser team in DC). He could go and so could Burns in MT. We just won Governor and big legislative gains.

I hope they do some serious recruiting for Senate and House. This could be a good one.

2. Mark Warner

Could be running against Allen, at least that's what I've heard. Santorum's definitely target #1. Bob Casey, Jr. is polling very well against him right now. Chafee is a man without a country right now. The right thinks he's too liberal, and the left thinks he's too conservative. If we're able to make sweeping gains this time around, it'll be because of Social Security.

4. Don't know yet. If he runs, he wins.

Santorum is a legend in his own mind; Chaffee is 15-20 points behind in polls already. Don't know about Snowe but she's a big phoney.

Now, ?'s of the hour. Will Nelson stay with Reid on Social Security and will he win rei-election?

5. Nelson's said he's studying the issue

But from his language I'd say he's leaning toward supporting the Democrats (in other words, he denied that he supports the President's plan). He's dodged two major bullets in his reelection campaign, and appears to be headed for a rematch with 2000 opponent Don Stenberg. If he goes and supports Bush's plan, I think he can kiss re-election goodbye.

3. Trent Lott of Miss. needs to go. He is in favor of the reform plus

He has way to much power in Washington. If he goes, the Democrats would have a big obstacle out of the way. I grew up in Miss. and my family still lives there. They are praying for the day Lott is out of their lives. He is now a Washington insider and doesn't represent the people anymore. Miss. has a hard time finding someone who can match him in a campaign though. He has a pretty powerful political machine in his home state even though he is never there.
