Want to hear your new DNC chair rock on local radio in KS? Wow!
This is what he is doing, local stuff strictly right now. This is an interview with KCUR radio in KS, and it is absolutely powerful. He is right on every topic.

This is what he does best, and it is bound to be making an impression on a state that is hurting economically.

He really hits Bush on the privatization, says he would get his license yanked if were on Wall Street...says it is an ideologue position for the wealthy donors. Goes after Iraq mess again...

http://www.kcur.org/programListDetail.asp?ID=6

I am 16 minutes in and still listening. He is first, then Bob Newhart.

Strong ones. This is how you talk, and it was just perfect.

5. Parts of the interview......all our Dems need to talk this way.
Some paraphrased quotes:

"We lose the debates because we are not in the debates."

"Republicans call us names and we don't respond."

He finds the debate on Social Security is appalling. It is not about Social Security, it is about giving Wall Street profits.

He says Bush has a ideological goal to destroy Social Security by turning it over to Wall Street, sending money we have borrowed to privatize to Wall Street for their profits.

He says we actually don't have to have a plan for Social Security right now, it is not that urgent. Make sure the Republicans don't wreck it.

Says it was good Bush went to Europe because it is not good for us to be "ruling by fear."

Again says Iraq was no danger, but terrorists there now. Refers to the dangers from Iran and North Korea.

6. Thank you for posting that
This is exactly what I wanted to hear! Howard Dean handled that interview perfectly. He sounds very down to earth and what he says comes across as just plain common sense. He's aggressive without being strident and he doesn't give any ground when it comes to his message. A beautiful thing to hear. I hope he does the same thing all over the south and in all of the "red states". If he can build up the grass roots at the local level and spread this message around we'll be well on our way to taking back our country.

14. Common sense
This whole interview just reaffirms for me why I supported Howard Dean for President. This guy is NOT a miracle worker but with the support of local dems in every state we've got a real good chance to revitalize this party.

8. I like how he is going from the bottom up. Making local appearances
and cementing his ideas/ideals of the grassroots Democratic Party the way to go. Meanwhile the "insiders" huff and puff and some may even distance themselves from Dean. But the joke will be on them when they turn to the money connections only to realize that the grassroots have raised MORE than they can and are supporting a REAL Democrat!

Give 'em hell Howard!

9. I agree
I think a lot of them are staying away from Dean simply because of image. The media has painted Mr. Dean as a far liberal when I've learned he isn't. I'm glad Mr. Dean is out there and getting to us "regular" folks. I hope in 2006 more democrats get elected and those who left the party just because of Dean will be sorry. :) I had high hopes for this past election and was sad at what happened, but I became hopeful again when Mr. Dean became chairman. I know I was very worried he wouldn't get it but thankfully he did. :) So now 2006 and 2008 look hopeful. :)

10. Values: Reaching out to the least among us
Values: what we leave for the next generation.

We lost the debate because we are not taking part in the debate.

Need people to knock on doors, local people. Neighbor to neighbor.
People say it is not socially acceptable to be a Democrat, and that does not make sense. Grassroots is the only way.

12. If you want a good video of his KS rally, here is one in Quicktime.
http://www.6newslawrence.com/stories/2005/feb/25/dean/

I think you need to download it to desktop, it took about 3 or 4 minutes on cable. Well worth it.

At the end they interviwed an elderly guy who looked a little teary. He told them that everything Dean said was right on. They asked him if KS would go Democrat. He sort of got choked up, and said no...but we can try.

I felt for him, because I don't think my state will turn Democratic again in my lifetime. They have taken over too much control of everything. I got choked up watching him.

On Edit: Not just keeping this kicked for myself, but to give folks a chance to listen to the interview. Just clarifying that. Things drop quickly, and it is a long interview.

15. I did an interview with KCUR on my way out of the Dean speech
You didn't happen to hear a lovely young woman (uh-hum) being interviewed? I have audio problems on my computer and since I'm satellite only in my car these days, I'm wondering if my interview made it to air.

19. I have to remain "scrupulously neutral" about whoever runs in 08.
And I "ain't about to say anything about anybody who is running."

This was after being asked about Hilary Clinton.

23. I agree with that.
On the DNC page where you can leave comments, I did. I read somewhere, can't find it now, that there was a meeting with some DNC people today. I know the transition team he has working closely with him are really into blogs and the internet....so I hope they go that route a lot to get out info.

First step...without total lockstep...get some strong voices on for the vital issues like Social Security.

Get the guys off for now who are thinking of running in 08, and get strong voices on who don't back down. Let them campaign later.

That said, I think he will have to fight a little for message control. I am sure he is up to whatever battles he chooses to take on.
He may have to pick battles.

28. Good interview
I guess his strategy is to concentrate on appearing on local media and for now bypassing the Sunday talking head shows. People tune in to their local station expecting some stark raving lunatic and instead get a clear headed discussion of where this country is going and how the Republicans have lead us off a cliff.

Sounds good to me. Considering how few nationally known Democrats have bothered to appear in these conservative states, the very novelty should get attention.
