New Group Proposal: Useless Presidential Preference Threads
The purpose of this new group would be to try to analyze why we see an endless stream of vaccuous presidential preference threads that provide no details whatsoever on the values, issues and policies that any given candidate espouses ...

The group would try to refocus the energies of the progressive online community on doing the hard work necessary to arrive at a representative platform.

Discussions of Edwards-Clark, Clark-Edwards, Hillary-Obama or any other gibberish without an in-depth analysis of where these individuals stand on the issues would be strictly prohibited.

Who's in ???

3. hearing no other nominations ...
you got it !!!

congratulations ... how many are on page one of GD-Politics right now ???

threads that provide support for a candidate because of their positions on issues that are discussed in the base post should not be included ...

11. what a waste ...
i had hoped the "my daddy can beat up your daddy" crowd would disappear after the primaries were over ... then i figured maybe after the general election ...

and now, "who would make a better running mate for Edwards, Donald Duck or Daffy Duck"?

reply 1: i don't think we can risk putting a female duck on the ticket.
reply 2: the country isn't ready for a web-footed vp ... we need someone more mainstream ...
reply 3: frankly, i'm for whatever duck wins ... i don't care what they believe in ...
reply 4: they're both tied too closely to the whole Disney thing ...
reply 5: i like Edwards but i'm for a Donald Duck-Edwards ticket, not the other way around ...

2. I vote for the opposite
Let's have a forum for all that useless clutter. All the contrarians, cultists and others with a penchant for useless discussion could at least have a special place of their own to wallow in their uselessness. Every time someone starts one of those threads it could be immediately put into the "Useless Speculation/Shameless Promotion of Your Otherwise Invisible Idol" Forum.

Just a suggestion.

Julie--keepin' it practical :toast:

14. Start a separate Campaign 2008 forum.
Let them have at it away from GD/GDP.

There are way too many immediate issues that need to be dealt with first. We either all chip in and help Dean deal with our real obstacles or there will never be a Democratic president again in our lifetime.

15. Works for me ...
my base post was totally satirical ...

i totally agree with you that "candidate" posts do NOT belong in GD or GD-Politics UNLESS they present serious discussion of a candidate's positions on the issues ...

DU should form a forum for those who have nothing more to offer than "i think this guy could beat that guy" ...

6. Agree....useless clutter. Everytime I see one of those posts I wonder
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 12:04 PM by KoKo01
if it's taken from the "Rove Talking Points Memo" on how to disrupt internet message boards.

Ever notice how often the Pundits keep throwing out names for 2008? Useless....Yesterday Russert threw out Condi as 2008 possibility AND for the last couple of weeks I noticed "Condi in 2008" posts popping up on DU... Is it Trial Balloons or Disruption?

It's too annoying.

7. I'm down. Seems the words "It's too early, let them perform first."
carry no sway.

8. Hear Ye Hear Ye!
thank you

i 'second' that eMotion

with those threads and the 'trolls'-whatever! gettin' us to 'spin our wheels'...we'll never get any thing accomplished...

....In every human situation, all reality is always between two. And there is always this great responsibility, I believe, laid on all of us by life, that the person who is most aware, the person who is most highly, most completely, most widely conscious in a situation of conflict, must accept responsibility for the person who is less conscious.

Hasten Slowly

As Hamlet in his haunted fortress had it, when the time is out of joint, as ours certainly is, the readiness is all.

12. Here, here! Until then, I am making LOTS of use of the "Hide Threads"
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 06:06 PM by blondeatlast
feature. Please, please don't let them go to step 1 (or whatever it is when it must be temprarily removed).

Edit: seriously, I'd like to see this forum--that way if "Hide Threads" is shut down, I can still easily avoid that muck.
