Does this make Sense to Any of You?
In Sun-Times Quick Takes

A Republican lawmaker in Maine introduces bill to prohibit abortions of "gay" fetuses in case science ever discovers a way to discern genetic sexual tendencies in fetuses, saying he has heard women say that, despite their being pro-life, they would abort their fetus if it could be projected that it would grow up gay. Family Values can be very complicated.

Now a few things I get from this, one: they hate gays more than abortion

two: that they agree there are circumstances where abortion should be "an option"

three: They are sick, sick, sick.....

1. That sounds like a good story to
reword and drop into conservative chat rooms to gauge whether they hate abortion more or gay people more. Is that for real? I mean. Well. They would have to admit in that case that being gay isn't a choice, then, wouldn't they? Wow, they are obsessed with the gay issue. What's up with that?

6. Imagine how they'd feel if they met a gay abortion provider
Who had had an abortion, while giving one and having sex with her partner......
imagine the screams

3. It's an old strategy of theirs: Divide and Conquer
Find a way to wedge their issue -- namely ban all abortions -- in terms they think people will accept.

So then they try to find one category after another to outlaw it. The 'partial birth' thing. Parental notification requirements. Requirements to notify the father (whoever he might be). Requirements to get consent of the father (regardless whether the pregnancy was due to rape or incest). Requirements for waiting periods.

It goes on and on, but the gist of it is this: They want women to be forced to carry any baby to term, even if it threatens to kill her. In their world, we women are nothing more than breeders who ought to be happy to stay at home and be subservient to our husbands. Furthermore, they also want there to be NO sex whatsoever, except for the purpose of intentional procreation.

(Many things do, even if I don't like them.)

It's a nifty question as to repub values. It forces people to choose: we used to call it "values clarification". Do you hate gays or abortion more?

It's also a nifty question as to dem/progressive values. It forces people to choose. Do we value potential gays over the freedom to abort? In other words, if we knew that the gay community would be cut in half or more by abortion, would we accept that?

They've posed the question in other ways before. If abortion were banned (and rarely happened), blacks would be a larger percentage of the American populace than they now are, since "black" fetuses are aborted at a higher rate than white ones in the US. Moreover, * would have probably clearly lost the 2004 election, and there'd be no question about the 2008 election, since the fetuses that are aborted would have furnished significantly more dems than repubs, given their ethnicity and the socio-economic class they would probably have occupied.
