Gallup poll: Bush losing the Social Security debate
Gallup poll: Bush losing the Social Security debate
by daveweigel
Mon Feb 28th, 2005 at 12:39:16 PST

According to the new Gallup poll (previewed on CNN, to be fully released later), Bush has LOST ground on the Social Security issue since starting his campaign.
Take the question, "Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling Social Security?" In 2002, before the topic came up, Bush's approval on the issue was 47-40. Now, here are the recent Approve/Disapprove numbers.

Jan. 7-9: 41-52%
Feb. 4-6: 43-48%
Feb. 25-27: 35-56%

Diaries :: daveweigel's diary ::

That's not all. On the question, "Who do you trust more to deal with the issue of Social Security?"

Democrats - 47%
Republicans - 37%
Both - 2%
Neither - 9%

And our "liberal media" will NOT TOUCH these Gallup Polls.

1. "Liberal Media" only mentions polls when they are "up" for Bush
Remember a couple of weeks ago when Bush's approval rating were up a few points - probably a statistical blip - any ever RW news show HAD to talk about it?

3. Isn't it amazing how when
the numbers are bad there is dead silence but if Gallup can overweight a poll with Repukes and it comes out in ght WH favor they blast it over and over. And there's no WH control of the media. Right

4. Do not grow complacent.
There is still a very good chance something is going to happen with Social Security and it won't be for the positive. If this issue get pushed to the back burner till the 2006 election it still will not go away. As long as The Republicans hold a Majority in all three branches of government they will still try to destroy Social Security. I hope the Democrats can retain enough seats and votes to still filibuster it is their only hope. It doe snot matter if every citizen stood up and shouted no to the destruction of Social Security these people do not care they do not get Social Security anyway and they want to profit from it to hell with the voters.

9. If the Dems have any sense..And the jury is still out on that one..
They will keep pounding on this issue and demonizing the republicans so that it WON'T be a positive issue for the repukes to pound the dems on.

5. As this continues to die a slow death, what will they use for the next
diversion from the graft and corruption that rules this administration?

they are on a mission from God to do the "right" thing doesn't the world know that by now? They are rewriting history and making it at the same time. They will line the pockets of their friends at the expense of everything and everyone no one will be spared!

7. We have to continue to resist him.
For two reasons: first, Bush is a good politician. Say what you want, the man came back from behind in 2000 and in 2004, and he fought his way to a number of victories. Second, the Senate is Republican and even if their constituents don't support the plan they might vote that way anyway.

11. I saw an interesting ssi plan
In the paper yesterday. It was authored by a repug, but it actually made sense in it's simplicity. He would give 2000 dollars to each and every child born, and then each year 2000 would be added to the acct. until he or she reached 18.Then it would be held until retirement.I guess it would be invested however.I thought it made sense. You could start this program by raising the taxable income to 150,ooo to pay for it and still keep the current system in place as is.
