Special Anouncement For Clark in New Mexico at 2:00 MT
We received notice to be at the Clark headquarters at 2:00 MT here in Albuquerque for a special announcement press release for the General. The press will all be their. It is bein touted that it will help him win New Mexico. I am guessing Bill Richardson the Gov. is going to throw his support behind the General but I don't know for sure. That would help him win the Hispanic vote all over the place. Bill Richardson is perhaps the most powerful Hispanic in the Country. The Albuquerque Tribune Endorsed Clark Saturday with a glowing endorsement. Looks good in New Mexico for Clark!

4. This doesn't surprise me
Bill Richardson is a smart guy, and probably thinks Clark's our best shot against Bush. I'm leaning more towards Edwards now, but I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if the General was our candidate.

Of course, the value of endorsements shouldn't be overstated. Just look how much Harkin's endorsement helped Dean.

5. Richardson came within a hair's breadth of endorsing him after SOTU
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 12:58 PM by jchild
He wanted to SOOOO bad, but he withheld. I bet you are right...that will be the big news.

Excellent!

Edited to add that Clark is leading in NM polls right now, and has been consistently leading, so his probable victory there is also due to the fact that voters identify with his stance on issues.

6. It would be beautiful
But Richardson is chairing the convention and can't endorse anyone. Unless he's stepping down as chair, but I doubt that would happen.

8. Perhaps Senator Bingiman?
What else could it be? Bingaman is very popular in New Mexico. I don't know if they would call a press release for that? Would they?

23. Agreed
Richardson said several nights ago, he cannot endorse anyone, because he is chairing the convention.

What if the nominee has not been decided? he needs to remain neutral.

12. I'm afraid Jerseycoa is right
Since he's chairing the convention, I don't think Richardson CAN endorse anyone. Maybe it is Bingaman.

13. Why not, the nomination will be decided 4 months before the convention
maybe both of them are endorsing him

If it's Richardson, it's not only a help in the New Mexico primary, it should also, as he is the highest ranking state hispanic in the country, with particularly, in other states like Arizona, Texas and Florida

16. Richardson repeated two nights ago
He will not endorse until there is a nominee. Since it could go all the way to the convention, he can't do it before. I would love it, but I don't see it happening.

20. read this article from today
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/politics/7771946.htm

from the article: Abortion rights groups generally oppose attempts in state legislatures to narrow a woman's access to abortion.

Kate Michelman, head of NARAL-Pro-Choice America, said she is satisfied Clark "will not only be a pro-choice candidate but will make it an issue in this campaign" against Bush if he wins the nomination.

"I think what the general is saying is that he supports a woman's right to choose as protected by the law," Michelman said. "We're good to go with Gen. Clark."

28. Here's the pre-announcement from the NM Clark Site
I have a feeling Clark's about to receive a NARAL or Planned Parenthood endorsement, which would make sense, as today is the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Richardson can't possibly endorse anyone yet... I'll bet it's NARAL, and that would be HUGE for Clark!!

32. NARAL praised Clark
...not an endorsement, but good words:

Kate Michelman, head of NARAL-Pro-Choice America, said she is satisfied Clark "will not only be a pro-choice candidate but will make it an issue in this campaign" against Bush if he wins the nomination.

"I think what the general is saying is that he supports a woman's right to choose as protected by the law," Michelman said. "We're good to go with Gen. Clark."

37. It was about much of the Gephardt Campaign joining the Clark
Campaign nationaly. It wasn't an endorsment from Gephardt but much of Gephardts campaign people joined the Clark campaign all over the country. It just means help getting Gephardts labor vote.
