A democrat's identity crisis: staying or leaving?
Message

I am a new Democrat. No, not a DLC'er, I just became a Democrat on December 13, 2000 as a result of the theft of my vote. I felt that a commitment is required now, since our democracy was at risk.
I had been a fierce democrat - defending my party on the net against Greens and GOP-ers.  I tried up to a point to rationalize the many cave-ins  of our Democrats in Congress. I stopped that since the Patriot act and IWR.
I even used to wave a Democratic flag at protests - at the risk of being lynched by the surounding greens. anarchists in NYC, who only killed me with their looks.
My most recent stand was to withdraw from a NYC coalition "No RNC". Different political groups came together to organize a protest against the RNC convention. Lately, posts against the DNC convention appeared and , since I wasn't able to convince them to stick to a commom goal, I quit.
So, why would such a feisty Democrat like me have an identity crisis?More

2. So you told the greens to come back to the fold...
but now that they have, you're pissed because they won't support your candidate and are threatening to leave? Good one...

3. Stick With the Democrats
Stick with the Democrats and vote for the good ones. Accept it as a given that there are no good Republicans, don't even think of voting for one. As you've recognized, there are lots of Democrats who are turkeys, but fortunately the turkeys are are staring to identify themselves.

When you go into the voting booth, mark the 'X' next to every Democratic name. Then you prune out the unacceptable ones, starting at the top of the ticket. There's no reason to vote for Hillary, no reason to vote for Schumer, got the idea? There's certainly no reason to vote for Kerry, who voted for the war and is trying to bullshit us about it. You already want to punish that man for voting for the war in the first place, but it's infuriating that he won't own up to what he did.

There's every reason to stick with the Democrats. Keep hope alive!

5. There's always a reason to vote "D"
And that's the name with the "R" next to it.

And sometimes the political calculations really suck, and you end up voting for someone who you disagree with more than not. But the alternative is often someone who disagrees with you. One hundred percent.

And remember - when you "punish" a Hillary, or Schumer, or Kerry, you're not just punishing them. You're punishing all of us. And democracy is about "us", dreissig.

4. I don't get it---I've been a Dem all my life--voting for 32 years
And although i've seem some true idiocy on thios baord recently, I have no "identity" crisis at all.

The identity crisis is in the party, not my head.
