Just kidding. Clark would make an excellent President. I'd be happy with Kerry, Clark or Dean. My real choice would be Kucinich, but it's all about who can actually get the nom and beat Bush, so I'll go with those guys.

Tho I would be happy with any of the candidates, as long as they can beat Bush.

Perhaps I'm not giving enough credit to Clark's "political" experience during his military career, but I feel that a candidate should have run for, and held office somewhere, before campaigning for the highest office in the land. The Belinda Stronach announcement the other day helped to clarify my thoughts. While she may have lots of real world business experience, she's never held office.

I see Kerry and Clark as very similar candidates, with the difference being Kerry's senatorial experience. (Which I see as a postitive. Others may see that as a negative. To each his or her own.)

I am amazed at the level of hatred which regularly flows between supporters of the various candidates on the GD-2004 Primary board. Maybe the UN should get involved. UNPROFOR-DU to help keep the peace?

I'm worried about what potential frictions may occur if Bush stays in power and Canada progresses with Jean Chretien's legacy of medicinal marijuana and gay marraiges. Either we'll be forced to scrap it and grow even more anti-American, or Bush will bully us with tariffs and such. BTW, I'm very troubled by the fact that a lot of Canadians simply love to hate Americans. I am not one of them. This is why I'm so into the whole American political scene. I love the country. But if Bush stays in, Canada will not stay dormant. I'd hate to see a falling-out between the two best friends in the world.

21. I picked Clark because...

I think you need a president that has leadership in war experience to straighten out the messes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It was hard to choose, because I like Kucinich, but I don't think the country is ready for a peaceful president yet. I also like Dean because he's passionate, but while I feel he'd be a great "domestic" president, I'm not sure how good he'd be with international concerns. Plus - some people are afraid of passion! Scare the bejesus out of them! (LOL, I know.)

As for the country I'm from - I'm sure you'll recognize your neighbours' flag, eh?

I was originally for Bob Graham, but now I can't decide between Clark & Dean. They both look great. At least you guys have more than one decent candidate to choose from.

He is what mainstream left in Europe is about (although the "third way"
stooges are trying to undermine it).

I would say that:

Kucinich has the right agenda
Dean has the right attitude (ANGRY like true american patriots SHOULD BE! YEEEEAH!)
Kerry and Clark have the right curriculum (for an electorate obsessed with security)
Edwards has the right looks (although nothing more beside that and being a southerner)

I like what I have seen of him and we need someone that can competantly get us out of the mess in Iraq. He has alot of respect in the Muslim world thanks because of Kosovo.

This election is not just crucial for the USA but for the whole world,
Dubya is a danger to the world. The world is looking to the Democrats, the candidate can not be someone that will keep Dubya is office.
I have followed this season, closely over the last two years.
I honestly liked Dean but if I was an American I would be working very hard for Clark.

If I would choose on policy alone, I would be with Kucinich. But is does seem quite revolutionary to think that the US would go from it's present state of fascism as defined here, to a left-wing-policy (unless as disguised by a political outsider like Clark) in one step. It's really the choice between evolution and revolution.

So choosing from the others, I chose Clark for foreign experience. His curriculum is impressive to say the least, and the figting spirit I sam him show during an interview, where he was being made to say things he didn't, finishes the deal. I'd vote for him, with only one small regret : that the Bush* gang would succeed of making national security (Homeland Security ?? :wtf:) something important enough to let it lead to good chances for Generals. I would prefer a civilian.

So why no Dean ? I never fully bought his message. I get suspicious when people shout with too much theater. I do understand that Dean is vocalizing the anger in a big part of the US, anger that is as justified as the Dean activists are needed for change.

Anyway I see good things in a lot of the candidates, I wish all of them luck and all supporters a hearty ABB.

This is way to important, incuding to us outsiders.

I see the General as someone who can not only beat Bush but someone who knows how the US should AND CAN act in relations with the rest of the world.

He comes across as extremely intelligent and a great leader. I would feel very, very comfortable seeing him as the face of your country, and I believe he would make your country - and the world - a better place.

I'm impressed by his military service but MORE by the fact that he successfully negotiated the Dayton Peace Accord. He knows how to make peace, not just how to win war.

And he showed us with Milosevic that you can capture and put on trial ruthless dictators with (albeit not complete) international support and without getting bogged down in an occupation effort.

I'm ABB. I don't really care the about the war stance of candidate X, nor about the history of candidate Y. I'm not disturbed about the military background of some candidates; Germany's finest Chancellor was an officer in an Army far more worthy of criticism than the US's.
I don't expect the next president to beg France, Germany etc. for forgiveness - a simple "let's forget about it" and a return to professional foreign policy will IMHO be accepted by all nations with a kiss on the hand.

That said: if I was to pick a candidate I would be hard pressed to decide if it should be Kerry, Clark or Dean, not counting out Kucinich - a pity that vote-splitting isn't possible in the US.

One more thing: the German magazine Der Spiegel asks the same question here (bottom of the page):

I have to admit that trying to understand the political culture/climate of the US is difficult, especially for this 'Nuck. It's baffling to me that Kucinich is considered to be a wacky leftist for promoting (among other things) a universal healthcare system.

On the most pragmatic of levels, any one of these guys is better than Bush, but to me, Kucinich is the only one who represents a dramatic change to the overall drift to the right that American politics is taking. He seems like a principled guy - and a feisty one. I also read WillPitt's piece on him - fantastic!

Any of the dem candidates would make a far better President than shrub. A busted flashlight would make a better President than shrub (at least it used to be bright).

I would opt for Clark. I still feel that he can best run against the captive media. It would also be interesting to watch Fox News (Pravda) try to praise Bush for Clark's character traits and spread stupid lies about Clark.
