Did Clark go from 4th to 2nd today?
Is it me or are these momentum shifts changing by the hour? Last night on Hardball they were debating whether or not Clark would finish 4th in N.H., making him "non-viable" as a candidate, and then today I heard he's in...2nd? Which is it?

This isn't flamebaiting - I'm honestly seeking clarification, because this is very confusing if you're not keeping up minute-to-minute.

:freak:

1. The ARG poll has him in 2nd.

Edit: Sorry, that was rather unhelpful without a link:

Scroll down to the one day polls. Dean dropped 7% in one day; Clark increased 3% to move into second.

21. VERY impressive!
If Wes can hold that slot until after the Primary that will give him a very nice boost coming in to February 3rd. If he holds that, he will be hitting the Feb 3rd states hard and will easily push Dean aside and probably pull ahead of Kerry simply because Clark has planned for a long campaign, Kerry doesn't have the groundwork laid down that Wes does in the Feb 3rd states.

As Iowa demonstrated quite nicely.

3. What you saw is no coincidence.
I started a thread where, among other things, I commented at length at the way promotion of John Edwards is now being used by some in an attempt to undercut Wesley Clark. Here is the link if you are interested:

10. your the first poster I seen with...
same opinion I had all along. Recently many have posted how the repukes are saying Edwards will give Bush a tough time in the GE. They are now making him their second Dean.

4. Honestly, this situation is too volatile to tell.
He could place anywhere from 1st to 3rd. So could Kerry and so could Dean. I think Edwards will likely be 4th.

7. His % went down. His place went up. Only Kerry and Edwards's % were up.
Dean is slipping big. Clark went from 3 to 2 over Dean.

8. Clark surpassed Dean? That's impossible
Dean owns N.H. w/ a double-digit lead last I saw. I really need to work less and watch more news.

9. Polls Are Going To Be Loopy
Polls are going to be pretty useless the next few days until the primary. Too crazy; I don't think it will be very easy to get a representative sample in this atmosphere.

17. I agree

...especially with the NH debate just hours away. Many of the committed voters in NH will actually be out promoting their candidate or attending meetings about the election, not at home responding to phone polls. Undecided opinions are swinging fast and furious with so many good candidates.

If you're trying to pick a candidate to vote for, I suggest you read policy statements and think about the good of the country; those things probably aren't changing much.

I'm happy to wait until Feb 18 to figure out who's ahead. Then we'll have the Northeast (NH, ME), East (DC, DE, VA), Midwest (IA, MI, WI), South (SC, MO), Southwest (AZ, NM, OK), and West (ND, WA) represented, and more than a week before Super Tuesday starts setting things in concrete.

Until then, I'm just campaigning and cheering for Clark.

12. If Clark finishes 2nd in NH, he is the "anti-Kerry",
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 06:37 PM by poopyjr
I could see him doing well on Feb 3. He has the money to compete longterm. This could be a long primary. Hopefully Dean drops out if he doesn't get a top 2 finish in NH.

19. There are no anti-(yourCandidateHere)s...
They're all anti-Bush!

I feel the same way about the term "pro-life". Nobody is "anti-life"! There are plenty of Republicans, though, who are anti-choice.

Don't follow the Right-Wing Media into another poor choice of terms. Stop calling Democrats anti-Democrat!

28. okay, more rant

My point is "the anti-Kerry" is hard to not misunderstand--double negative intended. Edwards has run a positive campaign; do you want people to refer to him as anti-Dean, anti-Kerry, anti-Clark because he is behind those candidates in the NH and national polls?

Based on Edwards' positions, we should call him the anti-New England candidate, the anti-foreign policy candidate, the anti-experience candidate, the anti-affluence candidate. His decision not to run for his Senate seat is anti-Democratic control of the Senate. His speeches and commercials are anti-negative. His hair is anti-gray, anti-curly, anti-bald.

Your post is anti-anti-anti-candidate nicknamings, which makes this one anti-anti-anti-anti-candidate nicknaming. I'll bet most people that have read this far are pretty anti-rant by now.

Let's use the prefix "anti-" for what it means: against. None of the Democratic candidates are against Kerry, and I don't think you should say they are. They are all anti-Bush--except maybe Lieberman, I let him answer that himself.

13. To be honest, it all depends on what happens to Dean's voters
Will they go to Clark or to Kerry? We can guess all we want now, but we'll just have to wait and see.
