My wife and I rank how well they did
My wife and I watched the debates. These are our rankings on how well the candidates did only in this debate:

1) Edwards
2) Kerry
3) Sharpton
4) Dean
5) Lieberman
6) Kucinich
7) Clark

This does not change my stance at all, I am pro-Dean. This is how we saw the candidates do.

5. It's simple, really
These rankings are specifically on how they did in this debate. We saw Edwards do best followed closely by Kerry. We saw Sharpton do better than Dean.

These rankings are based solely upon my wife and I discussing this with no other influence and we agreed 100% on the rankings.

12. You and your wife...I'm not sipping the Kool-Aid when I get to your place.
Dean won...Sharpton was even lectured by Jennings that he didn't answer a question at ALL, for Christ's sake...just WOW, dude.

Later.

21. I still have my Howard Dean bumper sticker
I didn't sign on until after it was over and my wife and I discussed this. The two of us came to the conclusion that we saw them come down this way based upon positions they took and how well they delivered the answers.

I then signed on and posted.

I also changed my signature because I found this debate a refreshing change from the vitriol on DU. If only DUers would conduct themselves as well as all seven of these men did on stage tonight, we would actually be making a difference instead of being involved in the daily circlejerk slam the candidates masturbation.

9. He wanted to put Clark last so, in an effort to appear less biased..
...he didn't put Dean at #1.

29. Okay, here's the scoop on Clark being last
I thought he did better than Kucinich. My wife thought Lieberman did better than Dean. The list you see is the compromise we came to as a couple.

31. In post #5 you said: "we agreed 100% on the rankings."
Now, you tell us you used some kind of compromise-formula?

33. Yep precisely
We did agree 100% We both compromised initial positions to arrive at an agreement.

I pointed out how we both felt about some of Dean's responses while she pointed out how we both felt about some of Kucinich's responses.

In the end, the list was made in this order and we agreed to it 100%.

3. Hello Walt,
I've been lingering awhile and you seem to be an interesting person. Are you sure there would be no circumstance in which you would vote for someone besides Dean? It just seems like you might have been a little impressed with Edwards or Kerry, that's all...

I'll cross that bridge if Dean drops out or loses in the convention.

Tough to rate all 7 in order, but it was pretty clear Clark came in last.

14. How do you see Clark as having won this thing? I like him a lot, but
he hardly had a chance to say anything other than defensive comments, and he misspoke twice. Don't think this helped him much if at all. I thought Kerry, Edwards, and Dean were stronger... Lieberman performed best but still has no chance. Sharpton and DK were just up there as far as I was concerned.

32. Because my friend....
as you might know, this debate was to set Clark up.....and get him to be defensive....
If you can't see that, you are not as sophisticated as I had hoped, my friend.

34. Easy.
The "I'm a Democrat stuff" where he listed all of his positions in rote was good.

But the Moore/AWOL question was the question of the night. Bar none. No one is going to remember any of the others.

Clark hit it out of the park! He left it an open question, underscored his Moore endorsement, and leveraged in mention of his other endorsements.

Republicans are howling in pain over this.

I'm very happy with Clark, and it was only an average performance for him. When it gets down to two or three, Clark is going to dominate.

13. They all did very well, so much better than the early debates
Here's my ranking:

Edwards
Kerry
Dean
Clark
Lieberman
Sharpton
Kucinich

Clark is showing the disadvantages of lack of experience but he would make a great VP.

Edwards totally blew the DOMA question - it was clear he didn't know either what was in the bill or whether or not it was current law.

...I'll admit that he didn't do the best with that question, but he put out his stance and didn't let them bug him on it again later.

We'll see how the press treats it...

20. I'd Put Sharpton Much Further Down the List. Dead Last
Brother Al had some great quips, but when he showed he couldn't name anyone as a possibility for Federal Reserve board, he showed that while he has an ability to think about the issues, he doesn't actually, truly see himself in a decision-making position.

The Fox post mortems are not giving Dean the credit he is due.

I think Dean redeemed himself tonight but the press won't let it be.
