Dean has got his groove back

Yes, I am a pretty die hard supporter of Dean but only the most irrational person would say Dean had a bad day today.

First Dean went to the Clearmont Opera House and conducted an amazing town meeting. Deficts, education, and health care. On message, calm, terrific. Don't believe me go look now.

Second The debate. Another good job. He didn't win but he did better than his real competition in NH. He had to have been helped.

Third PrimeTimeLive This was astounding. Judy Dean is shy, and unprepared but real, wonderful and sincere. She also put to rest this crap about the campaign trail. They make a great couple and make Sawyer look like the petty person most media stars are. Homerun.

Fourth Letterman Top Ten List. Dean would make a great comic. Stunningly good. Dean had perfect pitch and perfect timing.

Dean was awesome, nothing short of awesome.

1. I'm glad to hear it

From the rational, and from reasoned minds, I have been reading and listening to many defend Dean against the black hole of the media machine which seems hell-bent to chew Dean up and spit him out.

Like a phoenix reborn from the rumor of ashes, Dean will rise again. Dean is a quick study. Best to make your biggest mistake early on, because people have short memories and are quick to forgive when they recognize that, hey, Dean is a human being.

All this crap thrown at Dean because he, in effect, gave an enthusiastic pep rally speech, has convinced me to donate to his campaign to show my support.

The only one I saw of those was the Letterman. I thought he did okay. I didn't think he seemed all that comfortable -- I wouldn't say he was a natural at comedy.

The so-called "rant" after the Iowa caucuses has been totally blown out of proportion. In fact, I didn't see why it was even grabbed onto by those who would go after Dean. I guess they just needed something to distract attention, and to be a reason for all the votes going elsewhere (by hook or crook).

I do think the Right's reaction is similar to the reaction after the Wellstone funeral. If someone gets emotional on our side, especially a truthteller, the Right gangs up, one after another, and pounds 'em.

Here's my take on it.


We have Howard Dean, who said loudly, "I'll go to California, and Ohio, and New Hampshire, and Oregon. . . .

And we have Dick Cheney, Richard Perle & Co., who said in secret meetings, "We'll be sending American kids to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran . . . . " and we have George Bush, who says that after he's out of office, "We'll be going to Mars."

We do have a choice.

3. As someone who watches little TV

and almost zero TV news, I wonder sometimes if these pundits don't realize how asinine and silly they come off, taking things like Scott Peterson and Dean's "Yaaaar!" so seriously for days on end.

These media pundits take all the wrong things seriously...this whole thing reminds me of the Bill Hicks skit about Jay Leno from his Rant in E Minor album. "My god, what have I done with my life!!!"

Judy Dean saying she watches little TV and prefers her children not to as well gained my utmost respect. They don't even have cable!

Thank you, dsc, SO MUCH for this refreshing and reality-based post.

There truly is no evil or ill will emanating from them that I can detect. And between them, their intelligence level and grasp of what's REALLY important is amazing.

6. He showed what those of us who support him, love about him.

I just watched the PrimeTime interview. Diane Sawyer is so awkward trying so hard to be a hard-hitting journalist, but she comes off so shrill and hollow. Howard and Judy were magnificent. I think what I like about him, and oddly what a lot of people say they like about Bush, is that he seems very much like one of us. Doesn't always say the right things, sometimes socially inept. It makes Dean very likable. Judy was so awesome. Not an ounce of pretention. Sawyer was hideous asking her about what she'd do about having to dress nice and have her hair done. For heaven's sake! She's an 11 year veteran of being a First Lady of Vermont. She's not a moron!

I like that they don't watch a lot of t.v. We have t.v. and cable. But.. it's only maybe 2 hours a week. Tops. Our 12 year old daughter watches at the most... less than an hour a week. I appluad Judy Dean for understanding what a full life children can have if they do not live in front of the t.v. Judy Dean humbles me with her simplicity, her non-materialistic views, and her lack of vanity. I TRY to be that way...

Howard Dean is recovering nicely from the media butchering he's suffered in the past weeks, and past two days in particular. No matter how many times I see that speech of his, I still cannot FATHOM WHY it was such a big damn deal!!??? I see a man that was fired up, and had absolutely no voice left. He was exhausted, yet fired up with his volunteers and supporters cheering him on. I'm grateful that so many supporters of other candidates are feeling our pain at the relentless attacks on Dean. Now that he's not considered a front-runner anymore, the White House/Media has turned their attention to the next one to destroy. It's a sick process. And Howard Dean is EXACTLY what the country needed right now. He's an icon. I have enormous respect for him, and his ideals.

The media saw he was on to something big, so they tore him down. It took piling on for months, but finally it gave, and he came crashing down under the weight.
Now that he is wounded - and contrite - he is allowed to go on to the the "redemption" phase of the script.
Meanwhile, the media has spotted Clark and they don't like him either. They don't know why they don't like him, since they just don't know what to make of him yet. Which is actually why they don't like him.

It is no different than tabloid journalism.

10. watched debate, sawyer and letterman...

...and i think dean hit a triple. not a homer. but a solid triple. it won't turn anyone that was against him from the start....but his performance in these three venues today was good to great. especially the sawyer interview. and i'm certain that judy will make an appearance at least once a week from here on out.

prediction: the bleeding is definately stemmed. some growth in the polls will occur just before NH, but he will come in second. a close one. after that we'll start seeing the staying power of howard.

and remember this........even after coming in third in IA he's STILL the story.

I like it all, but I thought the interview was particularly terrific. Diane kept asking 30 versions of the same question but they handled it. Judy Dean looked like she was genuinely amused byt the whole thing.

many will be coming back to Dean reenergized after the media assasination. I even think Sharpton's cheap shot last night made Dean look good. The "primal scream" was absolute nonsense--and every whore should be ashamed for spreading the meme. Dean is a likable guy.

But we have to beat Bush folks. We have to nominate someone with an media image capable of resisting attacks. Someone with teflon. We can't be at the media's mercy come Nov. 4.

fun side of a person. I am so glad that Dean showed that he can have fun and not a stiff bore. Loved it when Clinton played the sax, he sure won over the blacks with his what they call soul. Yes, I think people are rebounding from being media bombed into seeing negative that was really positive.
