not important, but fun news from the campaign.
<If the Democratic presidential contest were a schoolyard fight, two Johnnys, Dennis the Menace, Spanky, Joe and a kid known simply as "H'' would be slugging it out. We'll never know how Pinky would have fared.
These were the childhood nicknames of the candidates who had one. The two Johns -- Kerry and Edwards -- went by Johnny. Joseph Lieberman, then and now, was Joe. Howard Dean was called "H.'' Al Sharpton's buddies called him Spanky from the old "Little Rascals'' comedies. Kucinich's apparent taste for mischief earned him his nickname, Dennis the Menace. Dick Gephardt, who dropped out of the race this week, was called Pinky.
As for the Republican president, he went by George. President Bush says he didn't have a nickname as a kid. Neither did Democrat Wesley Clark, known as Wes these days. >
