In the last day or two, with the whole media hype over the "I have a scream" speech, one major thing was lost to the media -- Dean made this entire process worth watching.
Dean has excited the base in a way it probably hasn't before in a long time. He called this administration for what it is and he really scared the hell out of a lot of party insiders. He embodied the frustration of many in the democratic party over the "establishment" type DC democrats failure to fight on several issues, notably the war on Iraq and the Patriot Act.
Dean started out from nowhere...A governor of a small New England state, and created a phenomon within the party, proving that money could be raised from regular people, if you give them something to be excited about.
Even though Dean wasn't my number one pick through the race, I have found him compelling since a somewhat obscure New Republic article (I think this was even before the vocal opposition to the war)...The fact that he was a doctor also really interested me...as did his unusual positions within the party on gun control, and his enacting of health care initiatives and civil unions.
So while he didn't really "click" with me, I have to say it was a hell of a campaign...Win or Lose (He's not done for it yet)...
