It's been a rough day since the debate but it will pass. Remember that most people (probably 85%) didn't watch the debate and don't follow things like we do. People have short memories as the Dean folks all know. His huge loss in Iowa and his "I have a scream speech" were only five days ago and it already seems like he has leveled off and stopped the bleeding from what seemed like a fatal blow. The polls all show Edwards still between 7 and 11 points and Clark between 14 and 20. He may go down for a day or two but then Sunday there is another Debate, which will be held by really nice Women who like Clark not Britt Hume and Peter Jennings (bastards). Clark will charm the hell out of them and the news will show Clark looking awesome and back in true form and he will take a solid second place in New Hampshire. On Feb. 3rd Clark will go on to win Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico and possibly South Carolina. At least second in South Carolina. Kerry will get one or two states and Clark will look like the big winner. Then FOX will attack full force again and we stick together and kick thear ass!

1. Aye!
After an evening after work being a little down about the way things are going, you've cheared me up. I'm gonna go to sleep now and have sweet dreams of GWB's concession speech after getting exactly 0 electoral votes in the GE against Wes Clark.

2. Like, when exactly was the last time a new englander won the Dem
nomination? How will he possibly connect with Southerners?
I can't even fathom it?

4. Keep believing....,the people I spoke with today....
...were glad to hear that Clark was honest on the Bush "deserter" question. It would have been so easy for him to cop out like Kerry did today with his "over the top " comment. Instead Clark admitted he was not informed on the issue and defended our freedom of speech.

If Clark had given them what they wanted--"Oh, what a terrible thing to say about the President of the United States"--a lot of us would be a bit disappointed.

8. Stands by his friends...
Good point.

What would be the public (and media) reaction had Clark turned on Michael Moore in the debate? The public (and likely many of us) would get the impression that he doesn't stand up for his friends.

Kudos to General Clark. Stand tall and let the chips fall where they may. (Now here's to hoping he doesn't cave.)

5. Come on guys...
we KNEW this was going to happen coming out of iowa

everyone was coming into NH, where Clark had been all by himself - and he'd have to struggle to get his message out. We certainly should have expected that.

on the flip side - it could be worse... we're well positioned to move beyond feb 3, and we're on 2 prominent sunday talk shows. So Clark cant answer an attack question in 60 seconds... bfd - we'll have an hour sunday morning.

We're an outsider campaign suddenly running against insiders rather than another outsider... even an experienced politician would need a little time to pivot (besides, if you pivot too soon - and Dean roars back - then what...) We'll be fine :)

6. Thanks for the good words...
Hopefully he can learn to turn those loser questions around to his terms a bit better like Edwards and Kerry. That's a skill we all need for him to have down cold going into the general election especially if he runs into a berserker moderator again.

7. Clark needs to at least beat Joe in NH as Edwards flys by him
He is just not in the class of Kerry, dean and edwards and you will see it more when the debates get smaller if he is still around. He needs to get some political experience to be with the pro's.

12. So goes Maine so goes the nation.....
it's like 100 years old. Just like the ploy they pulled last night conserning Bush's military service. They dug it up, they have to live with it.

General Clark won't give ground, rally behind him and we take back the nation......

As long as he can finish 3rd or higher then we will still be in the mix.

14. Edwards may overtake Clark
Edwards is going up, Clark's going down. The math is in Edwards favor. Momentum is the fuel campaigns run on. Unfortunately, I think Clark will have zero momentum going into Feb 3.

15. Some good things came out of the debate for Clark
It wasn't the way Clark answered the questions about whether or not he is a Democrat, it is the way that he kept getting asked them. The Republican agenda against Clark has increasingly become transparent, and that in turn has gone a long way toward reassuring many left leaning Democrats that Clark stands with us.

That plus the fact that Clark would not disavow Michael Moore's assertion that Bush is a deserter, and instead defended Moore's right to express that opinion while showing pride and gratitude in having Moore's support in his campaign. It wasn't but a day later that Kerry was saying on Cross Fire that Moore's charges were "over the top".

Clark won some loyalty points from many Democratic activists, and some sympathy and respect from many more moderate Democrats, for what he is up against with the right wing attempts to smear and take him down. All of that may turn to Clark's advantage, perhaps in New Hampshire, or further down the road.

20. 2nd, after coming third in Iowa -
it's where Dean seems to be headed at the moment.

is there really another debate before the primary? I would love to see the General climb back up on board and come second. I'm depressed to say it, but even third is looking tight at the moment.
