We're not "carrying the South" with anyone!

I'm getting sick of people saying <insert here> can win the south.

No, let's not set ourselves for false hopes. We're not carrying the south, let alone the deep southern states such as Mississippi.

We'll be lucky to carry the entire northeast (NH being the only real problem), the great lakes states, the west coast (which is not really the left coast any more...I'm afraid we won't even carry Oregon), and peel off WV, as well as Ohio.

Our focus should be on places where we have a chance. The deep south should be written off, regardless of our nominee...The only state I see some possibility is La after the recent gov. win. A few states such as Az, NM, and NV must have some resources put in as well.

I just want to make this realistic.

And as an aside, I'm sick of NBDers (and nobody but <insert name> for that matter), trying to make those of us ABBers as some sort of sell out.

You're not punishing anyone but yourself, the nation and the rest of the world, by refusing to vote for Kerry or Edwards. It's comfortable for those in front of a computer rant and rave about sellouts...

Everyone is so busy talking about "who can win the south", yet we have many other problems with other regions.

Here, in the midwest, where it used to be a dominant "blue" region, I'm not sure if a Dem can win here....definately not a resounding victory. The political dynamic of this region has changed so much that it really concerns me.

Forget the south...in my opinion, we really need to concentrate on the Midwest.

Serious folks...you have no idea what it's like here.

They are to far over the 50% to swing back I think. I do not know the figures on that percent but would like to see it.I get a funny feeling that the South will vote for Bush if the whole country goes down in flames. I get a feeling they are playing a race card. I think well it is me but I am sure I heard these same things about mixed marriage, schools, opening up the service to all, college. Is it me?

The idea is to take a few states in the south. That's how Clinton won. That's why it was absurdly close with Gore, he couldn't even carry his own state.

I think there is also a lot of primary talk about the south and who will carry it though.

The Republicans will carry most of the south regardless of our candidate....

However with the right candidate we can make them compete in Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana, and West Vitginia...

If we nominate a candidate who has no chance in the south it allows the Republicans to focus their considerable resources in the remaining states....

...most people are not yet engaged in the 2004 election, and most don't even have a clue that this is an election year.

9. Hey. I'm new here.

I'm in TN, which is supposedly a swing state. You wouldn't know it by living here. I realize now that people in the South aren't gonna care about a candidate unless he appeals to them on some human level. Sadly, that candidate is Bush, who appeals to them with this awful religious talk.

Anyway, for a Democrat to have any success, I think his supporters have to be active. Of course, I don't practice what I preach too well. I'm hoping to get active. I just think speaking with people on a personal basis and getting your candidate to appeal to them should be most effective. I'm sure some of the reasonable people here could be moved into understanding the need for a Democratic president. I guess that's the idea behind grass roots activism.

I'm just worried about the whole thing. I mean, I'm madder than Dean right now.

Tennessee and Florida are winnable if the elections are fair. These areas can not be written off, make the rethugs fight for them. Otherwise they will be free to target swing states alone.

that can change depending on the candidate and how well they make their case going against bush in the general election. There are plenty of nonsouthern states as well we don't carry either, but nobody seems to mention that.
