Has Zogby drank the Kool-Aid?
Why is Zogby polling for the fucking Cato Institute? And why is he kissing their ass?

Social Security plan backed in new poll

By Donald Lambro
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Most likely voters continue to support President Bush's proposal to let younger workers invest some of their Social Security payroll taxes through personal accounts, a new survey finds.

The poll by independent pollster John Zogby for the Cato Institute, which is being released today, found that when voters understood the benefits of personal investment accounts, including a better financial rate of return than the current system, the Bush plan was supported by 52 percent of Americans and opposed by 40 percent.

"The thing that is compelling in this poll is that this is the response you get when you use a positive approach on Social Security reform," Mr. Zogby said. "If you use the 'Chicken Little, sky-is-falling' approach, then voters understand that something has to be done, but don't see the connection between personal accounts and fundamental reform of Social Security."

"There are a large number of voters, especially those under 50, who don't think they are getting the best possible deal from Social Security," he said.

3. Uh, Zogby will poll for anyone who gives them money. It's the nature of
business when you're an independant polling firm. You have to accept things from both sides.

Zogby's gotta make money even when there isn't a presidential election season going on.

I'm very curious about the wording of a question which would lead to 52% of those polled to support Bush's "plan."

5. Cato commissioned the poll
And told Zogby the questions to ask.

Cato gave Zogby money.

The wording of the questions yielded the results Cato wanted.

I don't see how this qualifies as Zogby "drinkng the kool-aid" its just how this business works.

7. Looking at Google News..
The poll came out about 22 hours ago..

Seems to me no one picked up on it..

This guy makes a good point about how it's the media who is screwing Americans into believing Bush >
http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=21&ItemID=7981

And it looks like Zogby would rather be a well-paid part of that media, than an honest pollster.

AHhhh :o :o :o He's turning into another Scott Rasmussen !!!

9. A Fundie group did the same thing through Zogby...
They gave him obviously biased questions on the Terri Shiavo issue, and got an obviously bias poll result.

BTW, I'm not sure what Zogby means by 'Chicken Little, sky-is-falling'

I'm looking at pollingreport.com, and here are some of the questions asked on private accounts...

"Some people have suggested allowing individuals to invest portions of their Social Security taxes on their own, which might allow them to make more money for their retirement, but would involve greater risk. Do you think allowing individuals to invest a portion of their Social Security taxes on their own is a good idea or a bad idea?"

"In general, do you think that it is a good idea or a bad idea to change the Social Security system to allow workers to invest their Social Security contributions in the stock market?"

"Please tell me which of the following approaches to dealing with Social Security you would prefer: (A) Making some adjustments but leaving the Social Security system basically as is and running the risk that the system will fall short of money as more people retire and become eligible for benefits. OR, (B) Changing the Social Security system by allowing people to invest some of their Social Security taxes in private accounts -- like IRA's or 401k's -- and running the risk that some people will lose money in their private accounts due to drops in the stock market."

"As you may know, a proposal has been made that would allow workers to invest part of their Social Security taxes in the stock market or in bonds, while the rest of those taxes would remain in the Social Security system. Do you favor or oppose this proposal?"

Nearly of these polls say no to private accounts, all say they trust Democrats more on the issue, and all say most Americans disapprove of Bush's SS handing.

12. ' found that when voters understood the benefits of personal... accounts'
lol, in other words if you ask them this way:

Q: Do you support Bush's personal accounts that would give you more money than the current system?

A. Yes
B. I didn't understand the question.

13. Cato gives Zogby money
Zogby gives Cato the results they wanted.

Pretty simple. I never understood why people thought of Zogby as some sort of polling God.
