Governor Riley to serve as National Bible Week leader
Governor Bob Riley has been selected by the National Bible Association to help lead the organization's efforts this year to promote the reading and study of the Bible.
Formed in 1940, the National Bible Association is a non-profit education organization whose mission is to encourage all Americans to read the Bible. It is not affiliated with any religious organization.
In his capacity as the Governor's Chair for National Bible Week, Governor Riley will declare November 20-27 as "Bible Week" in Alabama and will urge other governors to do the same in their states.
"God gave us the Bible as a constant source of moral and spiritual guidance. The influence the Bible has had on our culture, laws and ethical standards is unparalleled and it should be celebrated and read every day, but especially during the week of Thanksgiving," Governor Riley said.
