TX: Pass the popcorn, whole lot of repuke infighting to start soon
Various TX blogsites are saying that KBH will announce next week that she is running for TX gov..which will pit her against the current repuke Gov Perry, despite state and nat'l repukes asking her not to disrupt the TX primaries.

http://www.redstate.org/story/2005/5/31/11494/6816

But just how vulnerable could Governor Perry be? Although his statewide approval ratings are not the best, the race versus Hutchison will be among Republican primary voters, who are Perry's strongest and most fervent supporters. Many of them also dread having a divisive primary, something that a challenge by Senator Hutchison will surely create. The Dallas Morning News estimates that a Hutchison vs. Perry primary could cost more than $50 million in 2006, and set off a domino effect in the down ballot races like nothing the Republican Party in Texas has ever seen.

One thing remains a sure bet: Senator Hutchison's challenge of Rick Perry will be tough, bloody and expensive for the Texas Republican Party. The wounds caused by this challenge, no matter who wins, may take a significant toll on the party in the President's home state, and may take years to heal.

Earlier today I posted that news had been leaked that KBH will be announcing for Governor next week. A personal source of mine in the media has also confirmed that KBH will be in Austin for a press conference next week most likely related to her 2006 intentions and likely run for governor.

The Dallas Morning News editorial board blog also pegs their "Hutch-O-Meter" as maxed out at a 100% chance that KBH runs for governor.

1. WHY is she doing it?
Does a Texas governor have more power than a US Senator in the majority party?

2. Maybe SHE'S angling for the Presidency
The better launching pad would be the Governorship, not as a Senator.

Did I hear that Karen Hughes is thinking that she might want Hutchison's seat? That the longer she thinks about that idea, the less time Repub will have for fundraising?

3. TX gov is a hood ornament kind of postion
The Lt Gov runs the show...which is why when chimp was first elected TX gov, he had to put his tail between his legs and make nice to his Democratic Lt Gov since HE was really the one in charge.
Some of the blogs are saying that KBH sees it as only a stepping stone to getting into a higher office...and we all know what "office" they are referring to.
What will be interesting: who will shrub (and the TX deep pockets) side with??

4. No question, Bushies will be behind Governor Good Hair 100%
(That's Perry by the way)

Hutchinson would like to move back to Texas. (She went to school at UT, I believe) and Austin is almost 'home' and the governor's job is really considered 'light duty'.

By 2012 she'll be 69... maybe too old to actually run for Pres, but you can never tell

12. Well, not all Repubs in TX are Bushies
The 'old-line' republicans aren't necessarily in Bush's corner. KBH is from an 'old-line' political family. We'll have to see how her fundraising goes.

I suspect she's been exploring the fundraising angle....

10. I read somewhere that she wants to stay at home more.
She and her husband have two adopted children who are 3 years old. She may want to have a more rooted life when they are ready to start school.

5. I've noticed this....
I was listening to Porky Limbaugh today, and I realized that since his main whipping boy Tom Daschle is no longer in the Senate, he was directing his venom at a new target-John McCain. He was denouncing moderates with the same vigor he has always used in attacking liberals. I think the neocons feel they have the left so in pocket they can now start cleaning house among their own ranks, identifying and weeding out those who aren't "conservative enough"...Hence attacks on McCain, and political liabilities like Trent Lott; Limbaugh was intimating-actually ACCUSING-Lott of trying to tamper with the Bolton nomination as retaliation for his being cast down for those Strom Thurmond remarks...This may very well be the beginning of the cannibalization of the right...let's just hope the Dems will take advantage of it, after doing some culling of their OWN chaff!

20. She has newly adopted 3-year old twins - who live in Texas with Dad.
KBH has said she wants to come home so they can be a family. The Governor's race looks good to her because Rick Perry is so damned unpopular.

It will be interesting, because the Bushies have stronger ties to Hutcheson than to Rick Perry.
