When Bush is Impeached will he be removed from office
and then who exactly runs the country?

(and don't tell me Karl Rove! I already know that. but who else? Cheney? and when he rolls over with massive heart failure then who? the Hulk?)

But, hopefully, by then, the GOP juggernaut will be rendered impotent.

3. Impeachment Basics
Impeachment is comparable to an indictment and is done by the House. Following impeachment, a President would have to be convicted by the Senate in order to be removed from office.

If impeached and then convicted by the Senate, the VP is next in line, followed by Speaker of the House.

Ideally the Democrats would take control of Congress in 2006, and following a double impeachment and convictions, Speaker of the House Pelosi would become President. (That assumes that both President and VP are removed before a replacement VP is picked as Ford was picked to be VP after Agnew was forced to resign from office but before Nixon was forced to resign.)

12. doesn't the Senate have to confirm a VP pick?
as long as we are fantasizing, it is unlikely that a Senate motivated to impeach would be amenable to confirmation of a new VP.

17. That's why I went with President Pelosi
Presumably if impeachment procedings were in progress against both Bush and Cheney, even if one was removed shortly before the other they would not get a new VP chosen and confirmed before the other were removed.

I figure since this is pure fantasy there is no reason not to have it work out this way.

I'm also figuring that if both were removed it would be under a very tight schedule since it would have to occur between 2007 and 2008.

6. won't be impeached
as long as the Rubbericans (Rubber-stamp republicans) still control Congress...

before we gear up the impeachment machine into overdrive - we will need to take back the congress. (I'm working on a bumper sticker design to this effect - TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE....AND THE SENATE )

meanwhile - as far as who runs the country should bush* be impeached:

flashback to nixon days: VP Agnew resigned, Nixon appointed Gerald Ford as new VP

then Nixon resigned, Ford became President and appointed Rockafeller as VP.

(Ford was the first vp/president NOT to be Elected - bush*/cheney is the second)

the only way Hassert would be President is if BOTH Bush* and Cheney were removed from office at the same time. This could be a result of both bush/cheney dying at same time, both are impeached/removed/resigning at the same time and no one was appointed to fill a spot for whatever reason

7. VIVA Is The Place To Start
Nothing would make me happier than to see BushCo forced from office through impeachment and the Downing Street Memo is a good place to start. However, the Democrats would need to retake both houses of Congress and that won't happen until we have meaningful election reform with teeth and funding to go with it. This must happen soon.

8. After JFK died, Lyndon Johnson had no VP at all
until the next presidential election. After that, the law was changed whereby the president who assumes office due to a death or resignation selects a VP.

9. I'd rather see him and his cronies prosecuting for war crimes....
given the world's dislike for *, I think this would be much more easily attainable than impeachment.

11. Yesterday I suggested some alternatives to impeachment efforts...
...since we obviously do not have the vote.

They were:

1. Patriot Act provisions subject to "sunset" must not be made permanent.

2. Stop electronic voting.

3. Elect Dems

4. Appoint special prosecutors ten people deep and three miles wide and prosecute.

Impeachment is revenge. Wasted energy. It's not a true solution of any kind. ESPECIALLY WHEN WE DON'T HAVE THE VOTES IN CONGRESS!

For the above I was told "Leave the Machiavellianism to the RW where it belongs". ?? :eyes:

After he is impeached/resigns, I will:

Start withdrawing troops from Iraq.

Install a new 9/11 commission.

Dismantle the Patriot Act.

Clean up the environment.

Get rid of e-voting.

Give money to all the poor people of the world.

Do something about the deficit and the nation's debt.

16. He deserves to know exactly what...
impeachment feels like. After all, he has earned it in a royal way.
I use to worry about who would replace him, but his impeachment should pretty much knock out all his other minions with him.
