Clinton discussing Hillary on Larry King: This is going to be hard to stop

It just occured to me watching Bill Clinton on Larry King now, how powerful it's going to be when he is out there campaigning in the primaries with his wife, saying she has the best mind for policy and leadership, etc, he has ever seen.

Yeah, you can say he's biased, but it's going to be pretty powerful stuff.

I don't think any other senator will be able to compete with her in the primaries. I think anyone who competes with her needs to bring something more unique to the table than that.

When Bill Clinton said Hillary and Clark were "the two rising stars of the Democratic Party," his political instincts were dead-on.

I agree, she will be difficult to stop in 2008, regardless if her opponent is a Democrat or a Republican. The polling data already indicates this.

I get the feeling most people oppose Hillary deep down because they want someone else to win. The fear of her getting stomped by the GOP isn't rational.

I think it's irrational to think anyone can't be beat.

Hillary is a big unknown. It is difficult to gauge how the American populace would react to the first woman nominee, and how the national seurity dynamic would play out in the context of whatever the future brings. I guess I just don't like that unknown. A defeat in 08' would be tragic for the party.

I think Clark is a safer bet to win, and I think Hillary might win but she is a riskier bet. Putting aside my own personal preference, I don't think the party can afford that much risk in 08'. It's just not the time to be throwing dice.

Edit: Here's what I mean by risky, using a specific example.

If there is a national security crises in 08' on top of the current poltical dynamic since 9/11, and it is a Hillary/McCain race, we have no chance.

I think Hillary will be an outstanding candidate, and is probably the strongest person we could nominate. It's astounding how often we let the Republicans define our candidates for us. But we still lost anyway. People who say Hillary shouldn't be the nominee because she is polarizing are just being naive because Bush is plenty polarizing and he still "won." She's very smart politically and there is a reason she is trying to position herself as strong on national defense, because it is a political winner. It's unfortunate that she supported IWR, but we'll see how that plays out in 3 years. I think the Democrats are going to have an excellent field of candidates, with Clinton, Clark, Feingold, Warner, Bayh, Edwards, and potentially many others. I suppose I'll thinking about seeing who the candidates are before I actually decide who I'm going to vote for.

Dean was the shit and the ball was in Clark's court as to whether he wanted to tacitly link up with him. Clark passed. Probably rightfully so because a primary had yet to be held. But I believe that if Clark had agreed, Dean/Clark would have been the ultimate ticket- bypassing the "electable" one. It was a week or so before the Iowa caucus and there were a lot of non-denial denials being passed between the Dean and Clark camps. Some say that Clark was a stalking horse for the Clinton's and that is why he didn't add his FP cred to the Dean campaign, however, I don't believe that. I believe the simpler reason is that Clark wanted to take his own shot at the top spot. There is the nagging question as to why he skipped Iowa and put himself in an immediate hole, though.
