Holy Crap. Kerry to bring up DSM when he gets back to Washington

Kerry assails Bush on Iraq
Policies on Social Security, health care also draw fire
By STEVE URBON, Standard-Times senior correspondent

NEW BEDFORD -- Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday called on Americans to be more aware of the "bait and switch" Iraq war and the "hollowing out" of the Army in the pursuit of a mistaken policy.

(snippage)

Sen. Kerry puzzled over the apparent lack of interest by Americans in the Iraq war and the near silence in the U.S. mass media about the so-called Downing Street Memo.

That leaked secret document, the minutes of a 2003 cabinet meeting of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, says bluntly that Mr. Bush had decided to attack Iraq long before going to Congress with the matter, and that "intelligence was being fixed around the policy."
It caused an uproar in Great Britain and badly hurt Mr. Blair in national elections but went almost unnoticed in the United States.
"When I go back (to Washington) on Monday, I am going to raise the issue," he said of the memo, which has not been disputed by either the British or American governments. "I think it's a stunning, unbelievably simple and understandable statement of the truth and a profoundly important document that raises stunning issues here at home. And it's amazing to me the way it escaped major media discussion. It's not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that."

He questioned Americans' understanding of the war and the sense that criticism equals disloyalty, saying, "Do you think that Americans if they really understood it would feel that way knowing that on Election Day, 77 percent of Americans who voted for Bush believed that weapons of mass destruction had been found and 77 percent believe Saddam did 9/11? Is there a way for this to break through, ever?"

1. I thought it was interesting how he said
"It's not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that."

IOW, he's paying attention to what the hell is going on, pardon my French...

2. If Kerry gets the Memo bee in his bonnet and...
hangs on like he did with Iran-Contra, BBCI - we are in business.

4. IMHO,he must use this issue not only because it is right to do so
but because it distinguishes him from Hilary.

Politicians on our side who want to activate the base must become familiar and comfortable navigating the web to see what issues are front and center and then tap into it.

Kerry gets it(a little late maybe)Gore gets it also

Hilary gives me the impression that she never turns her PC on;she has someone else do it

15. A little late?
Kerry's the one who actually pulled bloggers out of the internet, just regular people who didn't have consulting firms or any of the rest. Never did figure out how the one who coordinates with real grassroots volunteers is supposedly the one who "doesn't get it".

5. Good for John Kerry.
Let's just hope that this is the real thing and he goes after it the way he did Iran Contra.

6. puzzled over lack of interest
no surprise - lack of MSM coverage, news just being "SPEWS" and cut/paste of "white house approved" stories have most people in a vacuum. Quick glances at newspaper headlines, and catching bits and pieces while channel surfing does not make for an informed population.

the MSM lap-dogs were quick to jump all over Clinton and the Blue Dress... Chandra Levy and Gary Condit ate up alot of coverage... Laci Peterson was a big story too... (there were more, but thought I'd keep the list short)

so what do these stories have that the Downing Street Memo doesn't have?

SEX and BLOOD...

I might say that if the downing street memo revealed that Bush wears blue dresses - the story wuld get alot more coverage... but given the way the lapdogs aid the bush propaganda machine I seriously doubt it

11. Damn it - I was less than two miles from where he was yesterday
and didn't know it! I would have been there cheering him of if I could have.

I agree, if he gets this burr under his belt, he will not let it go. It might take him a while - Iran/Contra and BCCI didn't happen over night, but he will not be stopped.

This is the Kerry I know and love! Go John Go! You are still making me proud!

Not when they have Progressives passing along their talking points.

22. I wonder how he feels
"He questioned Americans' understanding of the war and the sense that criticism equals disloyalty, saying, 'Do you think that Americans if they really understood it would feel that way knowing that on Election Day, 77 percent of Americans who voted for Bush believed that weapons of mass destruction had been found and 77 percent believe Saddam did 9/11? Is there a way for this to break through, ever?'"

I wonder if it's more of a consolation or a source of frusturation for him that the only reason he isn't president today is that the voting public is so horribly ignorant.
