The Strategy of Impeachment via the Downing Street Minutes
So here's the idea:

Let's say this scandal keeps growing to epic proportions. Most people say, "yeah, but the republicans control Congress, so it'll never happen."

But is that true? Will the republican representation in Congress that is up for re-election be concerned that they will lose their seat if they support the administration (after all, the overall approval ratings of the administration are WAY down and Congress's approval is even worse). A republican representative *MAY* feel or be in the position that if they vote to impeach, they can reach across the party line to secure their next term. For that to be the case, however, I believe the pressure from constituents to investigate/impeach would need to be pretty high.

That's where we come in. If we get this grassroots movement going, centered on the Downing Street Minutes, we can create enough pressure for this scenario to happen.

How do we do this (other than, 1. sign Conyers letter, 2. contact your Congressmen, and 3. Tell everyone you know)?

1. we should certainly make it something that incumbents fear
every incumbent should be asked if they support the bush lies, if the think its appropriate for a president to lie our country into war

3. But is that true? - need the opinion from someone who knows Sensenbrenner
As chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Sensenbrenner is the key. Anyone who is from his CD care to comment?

5. It's way too early to start worrying over the end result.
Now's the time to make lots of noise without regard to what might or might not happen - cuz either way it's a win-win for us.

6. Not politics as usual.
Remember whom we are dealing with. Can you say that Rove-co will not bring heavy pressure onto the repubs in congress to block any impeachment motions? Can you say that it is inconceivable that such pressure might include threats to political life (as was done during the Medicare bill vote) or perhaps even threats against the physical/financial/social well being of members or their family? Threatened with loss of power is such a spectacular fashion; is it inconceivable that Rove-co/Petagon-co/Intel-co/BFEE would not resort to the sort of extreme measures that have been attributed to them on this forum?

Hoping that the repubs could be shamed into support is futile. You can expect that when presented with the choice of succumbing to shame pressure from the left, and the loss of everything a person has in this world from the coup-masters, the result is a foregone conclusion.
