what has that cuban-american toxic trio in the house of representatives,
ileana (attack dog) ros-lehtinen, mario (i have the power, you don't) díaz-balart and his megaphonous brother lincoln díaz-balart been up to lately?

the toxic trio which hopes to inherit cuba's house of power once they get rid of fidel castro, has been very quiet lately. the quietness before the storm? one has to wonder.

1. They're Taking On Historical Preservation Funding
Ros-Lehtinen's latest gambit is to prevent any money from US preservationists from funding any restoration of US writer Ernest Hemingway's former Cuban residence. Ros-Lehtinen opposes such funding because it supports "tourist apartheid."

I genuinely wonder about these people's mindsets. Do they REALLY think that they're doing Cuba a favor with such petty nastiness? Do they really expect would-be American donors to pony up for Cuban architectural restoration in future years with this sort of stuff as their legacy? Or are they demonstrating a typical Western hemisphere kleptocrat's mindset--mouthing about tradition and heritage while doing nothing to actually preserve such heritage when the time comes to open their wallets?

2. o, my God! the three of them, ros-lehtinen and the two diaz-balarts, must

come from the deepest part of the cricket hole.

what ignorance! what inability to think! they all three are governed by self interest which they manage to push by pushing people's emotional buttons.

the woman is supposed to have a Ph.D... in early education. She is supposed to have been an educator at some point in her life!

She must have been...better yet, she is a failed educator! and they pretend that cubans are going to throw kisses and roses at them when they make their dreamt about triumphal entrance into cuba one of these days.

the cubans in cuba don't even want them!!!!!!! and they do not have the right to push aside those cubans who've stayed in the island, living day and day out food shortages, censorship of the press, money shortages, toiletries supply shortages and tell them that they know, better than all of those who have made sacrifice, after sacrifice, how to run cuba.

all three of them are in, or should be due,for a real lesson in humilitê! {/b]

3. What We Leave Behind
I admit I'm an Anglo, but I've strongly believed in historical preservation and preserving historical landmarks.

I like to think that I'll be remembered--at least for a while--as someone who made modest donations to preserve some historical artifacts and buildings here in the USA. I don't envy Ros-Lehtinen in this respect--I expect that she will be remembered as the political hack who let Hemingway's Cuban house crumble in order to spite her former in-law Fidel.

That's not something I'd want on my record should the Cubans living both on the island and in the US come together to preserve Cuba's architectural heritage in the same way that Czech emigres and the former Communist government did late in the Cold War.

4. well .... i was born in cuba...my mother was american, a fourth,
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 01:19 PM by flordehinojos
(or was it fifth) generation descendant of brigadier general andrew pickens (american revolution-battle of the cowpens and others in which he fought right alongside Francis Marion a/k/a THE SWAMP FOX) and, my father (96 years old) is cuban--currently living in the u.s.a.

i became a student of (american) literature (for the most part) in the early l970s and fell in love with Ernest Hemingway and his writings BACK THEN.

In the l980s I came upon the translation of a book written by an american writer who had talked at length and spent time with the man who had been Hemingway's right hand in Cuba {i can't place my copy of the book right now, nor can I recall the name of the man. I also seem to recall some saying that the OLD MAN AND THE SEA was based somewhat on his experience with GREGORIO SANCHEZ {or was it HERNANDEZ?}.. wouldn't you know it, the name of Hemingway's attendant just hit my memory right now as i was writing this paragraph...wow)--and at any rate, Gregorio Sanchez loved and respected Hemingway. Also, back in the late l950s when the movie THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA came out with Spencer Tracy in the lead, i fell in love with the movie, with THE OLD MAN, and with ERNEST HEMINGWAY.

Although i had to leave Cuba in the early 60s because i was in danger of being arrested for making counterrevolution against Fidel Castro {two close friends of mine had been arrested just three days before my father decided to ship me out to this safer harbor)... i came, years later, and through my readins of Ernest Hemingway books, to admire in Fidel Castro, because he has been, practically, the only man alive who has not bowed his head, Nor bent his knees to UNCLE SAM'S or, more like POPPY BUSH'S CIA.

i still admire that in Fidel Castro even while i deplore all of his repressive measures against the Cuban people...as much as i deplore all of the repressive measures that this here, power grabing, shrub dictator is instituting against us and our american democracy for which my great-great-grandfather fought and spilled his blood for back during the revolutionary war.

It puzzles me that a woman (ros-lehtinen) who has received a Ph.D. from the University of Miami, who supposedly has acquired KNOWLEDGE, LEARNING, CULTURE AND THE ABILITY TO THINK is so damned ignorant that she is {i am willing to bet} willing to burn books at the stake that do not toe the bush or right wing political agenda. While she is not the one who is an in-law to Fidel Castro (both Diaz-Balart brothers are: their aunt Mirtha Balart was married to Fidel Castro and his first born son, Fidel, was born of that union) she certainly has been frozen in emotional time, has not really moved on, emotionally, towards becoming an emotionally grounded citizen of these United States,... how could she be, when she is so engrossed in what goes on in Cuba and dreams about a return there to a presidential position for herself and/or the two Diaz-Balarts brothers...and so, she stands blocking history, like a sore thumb, in the same way that she stood blocking what the correct action regarding elian gonzalez was, and that was, that for the mental health of that little boy, he needed to be returned to his father--something she opposed with her heart and soul.

Thus, such an ignorant lady, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Miami and, who, sits in one of the seats of our House of Representatives here in the U.S.A.is revered by cuban americans in the miami community, although i know a few cuban-americans who despise her and her ignorance.

She thinks to herself, perhaps, that she might be some sort of joan of arc, when in fact, she certainly is not.
