Today's RW BS: Felt, Woodward responsible for the Killing Fields
The Deep Throat story has brought about an orgy of revisionist articles from the right about how great Nixon was and how evil Deep Throat was. Felt is being blamed for the fall of Vietnam and now the genocide in Cambodia.

This is written by Ben Stein.

http://www.americanprowler.com/dsp_article.asp?art_id=8242

Can anyone even remember now what Nixon did that was so terrible? He ended the war in Vietnam, brought home the POW's, ended the war in the Mideast, opened relations with China, started the first nuclear weapons reduction treaty, saved Eretz Israel's life, started the Environmental Protection Administration. Does anyone remember what he did that was bad?

Oh, now I remember. He lied. He was a politician who lied. How remarkable. He lied to protect his subordinates who were covering up a ridiculous burglary that no one to this date has any clue about its purpose. He lied so he could stay in office and keep his agenda of peace going. That was his crime. He was a peacemaker and he wanted to make a world where there was a generation of peace. And he succeeded.

That is his legacy. He was a peacemaker. He was a lying, conniving, covering up peacemaker. He was not a lying, conniving drug addict like JFK, a lying, conniving war starter like LBJ, a lying, conniving seducer like Clinton -- a lying, conniving peacemaker. That is Nixon's kharma.

< snip >

So, this is the great boast of the enemies of Richard Nixon, including Mark Felt: they made the conditions necessary for the Cambodian genocide. If there is such a thing as kharma, if there is such a thing as justice in this life of the next, Mark Felt has bought himself the worst future of any man on this earth. And Bob Woodward is right behind him, with Ben Bradlee bringing up the rear. Out of their smug arrogance and contempt, they hatched the worst nightmare imaginable: genocide. I hope they are happy now -- because their future looks pretty bleak to me.

2. Yup. Just like Roosevelt was responsible for the Soviet Union.
Re-history.

Take and event and find the closest liberal to blame it on. Work back from there.

Woodrow Wilson was responsible for what happened in Germany in 1930s & 1940s. Not Hitler. Woodrow Wilson!

3. Silly me; I thought Cambodia was Pol Pot's fault.
Or maybe Bill Clinton's, like everything else.

9. Pol Pot would have never come to power if it wasn't for Nixon
Pol Pot had no support until Nixon started his illegal bombing of Cambodia and the pro-U.S. government of Cambodia did nothing while thousands of their people were being killed.

After that, the people supported Pol Pot and swept the Khmer Rouge into power.

5. stein is a nixon boot licker from way back. what we're hearing from
mr. "win-my-money-and-aren't-i-smart" is rationalization for his participation in the second dirtiest administration in American history. Sorry, ben, history does NOT, I repeat NOT bear out your argument or justification. I think Sigmoid Fraud set it best: "sometimes a scheming, conniving asshole is just a scheming conniving asshole."

7. Brought on himself the worst future?
thsi man is in his 90's and suffering from the onset of dementia, it may sound cold.. but there's not much of a future there. Ben Stien should stick to giving his money away on a second rate game show.

10. Nixon destabilized Cambodia
By authorizing illegal sorties into the country. Still, it is likely the Prince's days were numbered in any event, that Nixon's actions merely accelerated the process, and that we certainly would not have had the available resources to invade and stop the subsequent slaughter.

Watergate caused the genocide. Hmmm ... If this person's chain of thought is what passes for logic in Freeperland, no wonder they can't understand science. We have to simply accept that Freepers are, as a rule, not very bright and in general incapable of reason, or at best reluctant to follow its course.

The gist of the writer's comments is "the ends justify the means". As one who took the oath to "defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic", I cannot accept that rationale. If I must violate the law to defend the Constitution, sobeit ... but I must then accept the full force of law or my defense will mean nothing.

Perhaps Nixon's motives for lying about misuse of government assetts, and various other violations of the law of the land were all for a noble purpose ... but if they were then he and his followers must accept that the price he paid was a bargain.

In other words, GET OVER IT YOU RIGHT WING GOOSESTEPPING "MORANS"!

12. The freeper thought process (if you can use the word "thought"
in connection with assclowns like Stein without laughing) is very simple, and requires no logic or analysis at all. It's simply this: Everything bad that ever happened was caused by liberals, mostly Bill Clinton, but also including anybody who ever opposed Nixon, Reagan or the Bushes.. And everything good that ever happened was caused by Nixon, Reagan, and the Bushes. See? Isn't that easy?

11. The only people who "made the conditions necessary for the Cambodian
genocide" were the US adminsitration that installed Lon Nol and then bombed the goddamn shit out of the Cambodian countryside, making Pol Pot's preposterous claims seem reasonable. That is, Nixon and his band of thugs. Ben Stein might also recall who STOPPED the Cambodian genocide: the People's Army of Vietnam. That's right, history buffs: Pol Pot's genocide was stopped by the invasion of Cambodia by the Vietnamese (who had only recently given the ass-whupping to the American military). Nixon himself is far more responsible for the cambodian genocide than is Mark Felt. In fact, Stein's claim is preposterous, and, because I think Stein is at least smart, almost certainly an outright lie (i.e., Stein knows it's preposterous).

13. That is the most intellectually dishonest crap I have ever read....
"Can anyone even remember now what Nixon did that was so terrible?"

Hmm,it must have been pretty bad, considering the majority of both parties were calling for his head.

"He ended the war in Vietnam"

After he escalated it during his first term of course.

"brought home the POW's"

See previous note about escalation.

"opened relations with China"

Yes, so Nike could move jobs out of the U.S and hire 10-year-olds 15 cents an hour to make shoes.

"Oh, now I remember. He lied."

Give this man a cookie.

"He was a politician who lied. How remarkable."

Unlike Mr. Stein, I expect better of my presidents.

"He lied to protect his subordinates who were covering up a ridiculous burglary that no one to this date has any clue about its purpose."

The purpose of the burglary was to dig up dirt on the DNC,you fucking brainless idiot.

"He lied so he could stay in office and keep his agenda of peace going."

Lets ask the people in Chile under Pinochet's regime about Nixon's agenda of peace.

"He was not a lying, conniving drug addict like JFK"

Taken because of his back pain. Even with that he was able to serve in WWII. Where's your military record at, Mr. Stein?

"a lying, conniving war starter like LBJ,"

Which Nixon escalated of course. I am surprised he did not blame the Great Society for Pol Pot.

"a lying, conniving seducer like Clinton"

Clinton screwed Monica and Nixon screwed the democratic process. Which one is worse, Mr. Stein?

"they made the conditions necessary for the Cambodian genocide."

So apparently Felt, Woodward, Bernstein and Bradlee were responsible for the bombing of Cambodia.

"Mark Felt has bought himself the worst future of any man on this earth."

So based on that logic, Ronald Reagan bought himself his bout with Alzheimer's.

"Out of their smug arrogance and contempt, they hatched the worst nightmare imaginable: genocide."

Well, in that case, the impeachment of Bill Clinton diverted time away
from rooting out terrorism and finding Bin Laden, so the September 11th terrorist attacks are the fault of Newt Gingrich and the 1996 Republican Congress.

What a smug asshole. I remember when his show was still on, he would go out of his way to make himself seem moderate. I see the veil has been lifted now. If he were to drop dead tomorrow, I would go out of my way to attend his funeral wearing a shiny new white suit.
