Missing Weapons, Bolton and Docudrama on Nuclear Threat!!!!
The Last Best Chance, A Wake-Up Call to the Public
4 June 2005

The White House has downplayed the missing weapons report from the UN, as though it were just some little fluke that they disappeared, or posed any threat. The lack of concern for these missing weapons is dumbfounding to say the least. But, heaven forbid the White House should admit to any lax in security or wrongdoing.

Let’s get real here. The WP reported last week that the U.S. is unprepared for nuclear terrorism. Time and time again, we hear in the news that our nuclear plants are not as secure to prevent an attack, as they should or could be. Just take a drive to the lovely fishing village of Avila Beach, CA and marvel at the security or lack thereof at the back entrance to the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant. Evacuation from the area in the event of an attack would be near to impossible, like many of the nuclear plants in the U.S., Diablo Canyon lacks proper evacuation routes for it’s rural residents.

The hollow claims from the Bush administration for toughening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty are just that. Hollow. Bush seeks to install John Bolton as the ambassador for the UN, though it has been proven that Bolton “did almost no diplomatic groundwork for the NPT conference.” Of course, that’s just one of the many reasons on a very long list of reasons why Bolton is unfit for the job.

John R. Bolton flew to Europe in 2002 to confront the head of a global arms-control agency and demand he resign, then orchestrated the firing of the unwilling diplomat in a move a U.N. tribunal has since judged unlawful, according to officials involved.

A former Bolton deputy says the U.S. undersecretary of state felt Jose Bustani "had to go," particularly because the Brazilian was trying to send chemical weapons inspectors to Baghdad. That might have helped defuse the crisis over alleged Iraqi weapons and undermined a U.S. rationale for war.

ABC's Nightline and Meet The Press both recently featured stories on the Last Best Chance, a docudrama that depicts the danger posed by vulnerable nuclear weapons. The Last Best Chance was produced by the Nuclear Threat Initiative.

2. In The Dumps Today... Simply Thinking About How Too Few
have really focused on the enormity of our problems. D.U. has been a haven for me, has kept me focused on the fact that my beliefs have credence.

The extremely sad part is that too many have become walking zombies, marching to a fictitious drum beat of PATRIOTISM! As a Boomer, I always found solace in MUSIC, because of the likes of Bob Dylan and hundreds more. It wasn't that we smoked the wacky weed, it was because we had an awakening about how The Government can controlled our lives. With the lies, the misleading messages and the arrogance of POWER!

And that was WAAAAAY back then! Today, multiply that by as much as you might want and somehow it has dissolved into a heap of ashes! CRITICAL THINKING seems to have been replaced by a decadent feeling that might have existed during the time of Caesar. Fiddling while Rome burns. Only now, it's a juxtaposition of whether we want to confront REAL problems as opposed to simply seeking self gratification. The last thing I saw close to Unity In America was Hands Across America! We could come together for a common cause, now we have chosen sides and are ready for the REVOLUTION! But will the Revolution be minimized to sound bites??? I wonder.

Too me, a Revolution measured in sound bites just doesn't get it!

Are we up to the task of our forefathers?? Something is seriously BROKEN!

6. Are we up to the task...I don't know. It depends on the economy,
maybe. Since nothing else seems to stick to them I guess we have to wait for the "bubbles" to burst and figure that it will take the demise of hedonist/corporatists who are igoring the trashing of our constitution, laws and principles of checks and balances before we find out if there's a revolution.

I have to hope that attitudes or changing around the world that will come back home to roost here.

The prospect of a million protestors at the G-8 Economic Conference in Scotland is a start. The Queen had to cancel her annual vacation at Holyrood Castle because of the worry over the protests and that's a big deal.

We have to hope it's not just us out here fighting on the "internets" for change.

I feel like you do, though.

7. I Think It's Terribly Important To Keep Our Resolve!
It's just so difficult having to wait and wait and wait. Then watching what I see as sheer foolishness going on. The lack of depth of people "thinking" is very disconcerting.

I do think we have made some "baby steps" and maybe more are on the way. I can only wish and hope!

I've seen so much better!
