There's light at the end of this 5 year tunnel.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 06:32 PM by Shrubhater
In 1972, Nixon was reelected. In 1974, two years after that, he was impeached and he resigned. He was impeached a year after the Watergate scandal, and two years after his reelection. If history has a tendency to repeat itself, we may be looking at Bush being out of the White House sometime around 2006, two years after his "reelection", and a year after the Downing Street Memo. Just a thought and a hope...

P.S. Although Bush is too stubborn to resign....

1. Can you really draw an analogy from 1974 to 2006?
What about the press--hell, they were at least intellectually curious, not vapid and slutty like they are now. And what about voter fraud? This is not to mention that I think BushCo will MIHOP again.

Really, I never used to be paranoid. But now paranoia is just my natural state.

4. My kind of cat. Forget the press, it's who the press works for...
...and those people are looking at lowing a lot of value in their assets, equity in their property and business, access to markets. They figured * II would be like * I in 2000. By 2004, * II figured out how to become independent of the "money boys" through STEALING THE ELECTION.

The press are toadies, puppets, paid servants. They do what they are allowed to do. When they fully open up, the deal will be done and it's just a count down marred by rear guard resistance by * II.

5. So, what exactly do you expect to happen?
Who will "let" the presstitutes start turning tricks the other way?

7. You'll be sorry you asked!
Here's the abreviated message of a longer post earlier in the year.

8. Not impeached, "resigned"

"Management" is getting its ducks in line. They have Fitzgerald in place. He may seem to be treading water, taking his time, and he is. The first move will be on Cheney. Fitzgerald will indite someone so close to Cheney, there will be calls for his resignation. Then a "safe" VP will be selected, someone people can agree is "presidential" and not a drooling partisan. Then the press will unleash it's repeated broadsides against * including an, "oh so shocked" investigation of "Gannon." Bush will be driven to the brink mentally and will resign for "health reasons." Mr. Consensus VP of "presidential timber" will move in and try to make sense out of the mess * created. People will not be happy because, at that point, we'll have major economic problems.

Why will this happen? Because * is simply a lunatic and even those who want the tax breaks and regulatory freedom know that a 30% increase in revenues *that are worth nothing* is worse than the revenues they have right now, which can retain some worth if * stops trashing th country. Just as Nixon became to "crazy" for "management," * has become to grossly incompetent. The World Bank and UN appointments will make this clear. He went to Europe to "make friends" and was treated with some restrained respect. Now he's back home and insulting the Europeans with Wolfie and Bolton. People in power know a nut when they see one and they want him gone. Maybe 12 months at the most, and he is history.

I go on like this every now and then but it doesn't mean I'm wrong. I predicted that the Sox (a team that I don't care much about) would win when they were three games down to the Yankees.

9. In most Americans minds, Iraq is not Vietnam
The driving force behind that brought a "70's" regime change was a growing opposition to the war and for good reason. 58,000 dead is alot of young men and women giving the ultimate sacrifice.

We are no where near that tipping point with the Iraq war. The Downing street memo is important, but it isn't Watergate. Never will be, either.

Hope all you want, Bush isn't going to be impeached. Congress doesn't have the votes or the will.

Just for historical accuracies, Nixon was never impeached. He resigned before Congress would have draw up the charges. The GOP leaders went to him and told him it was coming and better get out before we force you.

10. It's all in the hands of the citizens. Enough of them have to be
incensed to the point that they will make demands on their representatives - right wing representatives - representatives who have already pledged and bought into the right wing cabal - leaders who ARE PART OF THE CABAL.

How many citizens are going to make the demand?

Many Republicans wanted Nixon out. People still cared about the Constitution. It wasn't just a break-in - it was obstruction of justice and abuse and conspiracy against other people in the government.
