Dean & Clark are finished
So say the pundits on CNN's Capital Gang.

Dean is too angry, Clark says mean things, Clark has a really good stump speech & holds outstanding rallies, but it doesn't matter because he blew the debate, Deans's on-line fund raising didn't matter because we should go back to big donors, why vote for anyone but Kerry because they all have the same positions, but he's the most experienced, unlike Dean & Clark who are error prone.

So there...The pundits have decided.

5. I watched the first 15 minutes of that
totally infuriating crap. They are all republicans or anti-dean anti-clark. They just can't stand non-establishment candidates. When Novak tried to shut down Shields when he had made a perfectly resonable statement I was ready to punch the TV. What they said about Dean and Clark was just so blatantly false!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!

28. starting to believe some of the conspiracies
I'm starting to believe the conspiracy theorists...that Clark was sent in to neuter Dean, ensuring that neither win and the field would be left to those who've earned their turn.
I just don't think Clark knows this is why he was drafted.

10. the democratic party
is fucked.

we had a gift given to us with dean, a chance to change things... but instead we'll end up with a nominee who voted FOR the iraq war, voted FOR the bush tax cuts, voted FOR no child left behind, voted FOR the patriot act, is skull and bones tried and true.

yes, the democratic party is fucked.

and i, along with countless others, will be staying home in november.

32. i haven't thrown in the towel
but i'm OUTRAGED (quite beyond words) by the character assassination dean has endured, and i'd be lying if i said no lasting damage has been caused to his candidacy...

it's brought back the kind of raw anger i had when bush took our nation to war last year. it's brought back my promise to myself "back then" that i will NEVER, EVER, vote for a war enabler.

if the democratic party nominates a war enabler to its helm, the democratic party will be dead in my eyes... and heart.

35. I'm Shocked!
A politician has had his character questioned!

Surely this has never happened before.

If Clinton and Nixon, to say nothing of Shrub, could have their characters mauled and come back up fighting, what's Dean's problem?

In the 20th Century we had Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, and Clinton.

Just which of these Democrats did not have a war?

(trick question regarding Carter)

An intense dislike for giant media conglomeration. So did Kerry initially, but I'm not sure where he stands now...

These same pundits declared Dean a shoo-in and Kerry's campaign dead weeks ago. They change their minds every 5 minutes. Dean and Clark don't have to win N.H. to be viable, because they have a good chance to do well on Feb. 3.

"Would someone please explain to Novak that Clark isn't required to repudiate rumors about the president who gave Novak the brown nose? He's supposed to be a journalist; let Novak go investigate the truth about this AWOL President. Of course, we'll probably lose another CIA operative in the process."

40. Don't fret!
Hey, basketball is life and life is basketball.....
Given that as a backdrop, back in the early 80's the Lakers blew into the championship series to face the Celtics. Midway through game three, Kevin McHale gave a hard foul to James Worthy. It sent a signal: the Celtics were playing hard ball! The Lakers continued to try and finesse and "show-time" their way to victory, but at each and every turn they were being roughed up and manhandled. The Celtics won the series.

The very next year the same two teams faced off again! The Celtics routed the Lakers in game 1. Near the end of the 4th quarter Magic Johnson stole the ball and slammed it angrily into the basket. The Celtic fans gave him a sarcastic round of applause. Magic went to the bench for the last few seconds of the game. The cameras were on him as he sat there and you could almost read his mind: He was pissed. The very next game the Lakers roughed up the Celtics, matching them blow for blow. The Lakers won the series 4 to 2.

It was not the old stalwarts of the Lakers that helped them change their attitudes, it was the outsiders, Larry Spriggs and Kurt Rambis, that came in and stiffened the backs of the finesse player, Magic, Worthy, Cooper and the "Big Guy".

Likewise, the Republicans play hard ball (impeachment, recall elections, redistricting, voter intimidation, lying to go to war, etc...). Guys like Clark and Dean bring a toughness that is needed in for democrats. Whether they get the nomination or not, the party needs that kind of fire.

Can you imagine the headache for republicans if Dean has 10 months to go throughout the country speaking boldly about the prez' incompetence.

Can you imagine the boost congressional candidates will get in the south if Clark campaigns with them. There are enough undecideds in these southern suburbs that will trust and respect Clark enough to give Dem. candidates a hard look.

Kerry and Edwards are finesse players. Dean and Clark can push them to be more aggressive. Once they are no longer a part of this campaign, the fire will be extinguished to a certain degree.

I like Kerry and Edwards, they both dwarf the prez in stature and in decency. But it will take a lot of intestinal fortitude to beat these guys, and if the two Senators didn't stand up to these bullets in the Senate, how will they fare with the bombardment of negativity that is awaiting our candidate.

36. With friends like these...
Want to see how the "angry" thing is being played against Dean by the Democrats??? Check this out from an AP story regarding the candidates "sparring over Iraq". It warms my democratic heart to see another candidate perpetuating the Dean anger myth. As I recall, he hasn't been seen screaming for his boots, ever. This is just disheartening. Guess her attitude is NBK.

<<In rebuttal, a spokeswoman for Kerry predicted the remarks would backfire. "When is Howard Dean going to realize that voters are tired of these same old angry attacks," said Stephanie Cutter. "Voters are looking for a steady hand, not a clenched fist.">>

He must be exposing the RW for its extremism. The supposedly liberal pundits back in 1980 did the same thing to Carter, when he tried to expose Ronnie's extreme RW connections and ideas. Of course, the voters went for it. Imagine that.
