holy sh**. have you noticed the freepers crawling through here?
I mean, it's comical. it's like they all call each other on the cell phone and say..."LET"S INVADE DU".

I can read these boards for hours or days with nothing but legitimate conversation about Dem issues...then BOOM:

I see all these posts directing us to what Hannity is saying and that this fundraiser or that one is quitting because goshdarn Dean is so MEAN to the Republicans.

Then I see replies sayin..Oh oh. this isn't good. we're in trouble now.

I'm sure I shouldn't be overly cynical, but most of these doomsayers waltz in as one each with 50 posts or 100 posts.

I remember when I first came to DU. I am pretty outspoken, but I took my time to speak up in a negative way. I was so stoked when I got through to this site all I could do was rave about how great it is to be with som any like minded folks.

I guess it's just sad to know people who don't agree with us feel it's worth their time to come over here. I've NEVER registered or tried to post at Freeperville or any place like that. Don't understand it.

4. Maybe some are freepers
But maybe some are just weak-willed, jelly-filled appeasers with some sort of misguided hope that the Republicans and the media will be nice to us if Dean just gets along/goes along, etc.

More succinctly, I think there's a mix of freeper-types and DLC-types.

Salt, carbon, and water.

7. oh absolutely. not painting with broad brush.
I understand some threads are started by genuinely concerned folks wishing for a change and hating to see someone who's so polarizing out in front...

but a few are pretty obvious when you know what to look for.

poor use of English language.
bad spelling
incomplete thoughts
low post count
irrational fear
etc

14. I think that the situation is past Miss Manners
they come here to divert our attention from the real issues, to create dissention among us and to lecture us on how to be good citizens like them, I will never condone torture or all the other sleazy things I see going on which passes as "policy."

5. All that counts is..
.. how Dems vote or cave in to losing the filibuster.

There are a few good Dems out there, but most of them are Publites.

Right now, America is a one party state, with virtually no system of checks and balances.

That's the truth. It hurts.. a LOT!

6. There tends to be a "kill 'em all and let god sort 'em out" attitude >
among some DUers, though.

I'd guess a decent percentage of the low post-total folks who get run off as freepers aren't. Pity, really.

9. I'm far from a freeper.....
Yes I have 50 something posts and I pointed out that they are playing more tape of Dean comments on Hannity and Colmes. I despise Hannity more than you can imagine, but the truth is he is always first to put out right wing talking points which flow into the MSM within days. It doesn't hurt to be one ahead of them and know what is coming. I am an active supporter of the Democratic Party and spent six months going around the country talking about my own experience as a reservist who served in the Iraq war as a surrogate of the Kerry campaign. Sometimes people in this room have little to no tolerance for opinions that even only slightly differ from them, and who misspell a word here and there. DU should be a little more welcoming to newcomers, instead of accusatory.

11. welcome to you! wasn't singling your post out
I was actually referring to some replies. but a person has to judge things on their merits and anything "Hannity" is pretty much a waste of my time.

I've watched him way back when..and ultimately it is about the most frustrating exercise I can describe.

So.....thanks for sharing. I hope your travels around the country were enriching. I'm sure you were able to see the seething rage at what Bush has gotten us into that bubbles up now and then in people around the US.

20. There is a real pattern that long term DUers are familiar with.
Just like freeperville, we get disrupters. They usually don't last long but the ones who do act out here for a while then at some point in time the acting stops and their real selves comes out. There is a limited number of tactics they take as if they are the first to use them. One of the most used is the "we shouldn't do this or that because the repubs will do this or that about it." So if you say something like that and have low number of posts you look like a disrupter. We all know the repubs will do what ever they want no matter what we do or say so who here really gives a shit what they will do or say about something we do or say.

It is a shame that they and legitimate low post DUers look similar to a lot of us.

That is why we are not supposed to automatically call someone a disruptor.

If you are wait long enough the true DUers build up a large number of posts and the disrupters give themselves away. They both can't help themselves because they both have something to say, only they take different sides.

22. Excellent point -- and the same reason I listen to Limbaugh
when I get the chance (and am psychically up to it), which isn't often.

Sometimes people in this room have little to no tolerance for opinions that even only slightly differ from them, and who misspell a word here and there. DU should be a little more welcoming to newcomers, instead of accusatory.

That's probably another good point, but some of us believe (because it's true) that we've let a lot of REAL freepers through to wreak havoc later because they were semi-clever and we were asleep at the wheel. Once post counts get high, and esp. over 1000, there's a natural inclination to give a DUer the benefit of the doubt when some of their posts are questionable -- IOW, it's hard to get rid of the REAL freepers.

Sooooo, some people are little quick on the trigger on the issue. I imagine once you've been here long enough to have seen some of the REAL freepers in action, you'll understand better if not agree.

AT THE SAME TIME, DU Admin are constantly asking us to be nice(r) to newbies and that's important too.

HEY! Welcome to DU! :bounce:

16. I agree. just raising the issue because it's amusing
each time I see it. I don't mean this to be a "report on FREEPERS" type thread. I can't fully judge where a person is coming from in a few posts...but often you have a good idea.

17. Here's how you can tell what's going on.
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 10:08 PM by Mountainman
I'm not going to say these folks are all freepers. Maybe they come from other sites.

But, if you listen to wing nut talk radio for a day. (Only listen for a few minutes to each show that's all it takes and that's about all an intelligent person can take.)

Listen to the different talk hosts. They seem to all say the same thing the same day. It is like the bast fax from Rove goes out to them or something.

Then come to DU and you will see the same thing in posts saying, "Oh no! Don't do that the repubs will use it against us!"

Listen all you freeps or freeps want to be's.

Sticks and stones can break my bones but you can go fist fuck yourselves. Your days are numbered and you know it.
