Edwards Heads: He did NOT apologize or correct the quote.
In fact, he said he'd say it again, even as hundreds of articles have quoted him and how it's evidence of lack of support for Dean.

If you want to gush over his note, fine.

But don't make it into something it's not.

1. God forbid he should have a difference of opinion
He said he was taken out of context. No gush, but sounds reasonable given the media's usually anti-Dean spin.

2. No. He said they didn't report the good things he said, only the bad. nt

3. That's what I call
being quoted out of context. Or, if you prefer, the media cherry picked their quote.

He had good things to say. He had bad things to say. Dean isn't God. People can say things, and it should be okay.

4. That isn't what quoting out of context means
The quote was both accurate and in context. What they did was leave out other valid quotes but that is different from quoting out of context which usually means to quote in a way that leads one to believe someone said something they didn't say. Edwards did say this, he also said other things.

7. Gotcha. Sorry.
I'll go with cherry-picking, then. Took the bad, left the good.

5. Okay. We're all reasonably politically savvy around here.
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 11:07 PM by smartvoter
When politicians are on the same side, they cover each other by saying "I think what he meant was" or "He could have chosen his words better, but..."

It's a far cry from: "Dean doesn't speak for Democrats."

We could easily predict the fallout from this, and we're not half as tested and press savvy as these guys (Edwards, Biden, Richardson) are.

(Also, that's not out of context. It was in the context of Dean's comments. Out of context is different.)

9. Thanks for "there's a far cry from Dean doesn't speak for Dems"
comment! IT sure is! I'm not sure why these guys still hate Dean, but it's obvious they do. I happen to think Dean is doing a lot better job than Terry ever did, and not kissing anyone's ass in the process!

I lost a lot of respect for Edwards, and Biden over there distancing, and neither will have my support in 2008!

18. Maybe we should stop listening to the mainstream media
You know, the MSM that we demonize every day here. Maybe we should take our own advice and not believe anything we hear or see on the major news networks.

i just remember reading about it--and what a creepy thing it was--last year.

from what i remember, it's too secretive to know who goes there. ah yes, here is the article i read about it:

14. I agree -- and I was taken in with his "explanation" (or whatever)
UNTIL I saw the clip a little later. I was NOT impressed, and it made a mockery of that high-minded sounding non-apology.

Edwards keeps showing me a little too much of Edwards the Really Clever Trial Attorney.

17. I read it and thought WTF? I didn't see what everyone else says is
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 02:40 AM by smartvoter
in there, so I read it again. He wrote a clever note that essentially says:

I'd do it again, even though this has been the outcome, and this is all nonsense because we both hate what Republicans are doing to the country.

Of course, being this direct wouldn't fly -- we'd still be wondering why he said what he did -- so it's flowered up with just enough triggers and warm-fuzzies for oodles of us to walk away saying he apologized or the press took him out of context when in fact he said neither.

It really is an amazing play.
