They could read Bill Clinton's lies a mile away....
But they see this creel-footed, porkskin-eating, Elmer Gantry snakeoil salesman up close and personal, and they think he is something he is not? Why do they not see what is so obvious to so many?

1. Because he is just doing as told?
And Bill actually thought for himself?

2. because they "believe" like he does, they share it
and they have connected their choice to their belief.

speaking to people, whether they were fat-cat corporate types or unemployed and down-and-out citizens in a remote, small town.

And Dubya never praises anyone from his heart or mind. Having neither, how could he?

Clinton praised others often, and it SOUNDED like he meant it. I think he DID mean it.

I think specifically of his round, strong praise for John Kerry on the podium of the Democratic convention last summer in Boston. "Send me," Clinton said, characterizing Kerry's civic volunteerism and his sturdy citizenship.

An ex-president praising a future nominee for president was good for young and old alike to see. It made many, many people better people for somehow being part of this bigger thing, this broad, deep history and tradition, this human exchange. All tied together by praise and delivered convincingly by Bill Clinton.

Dubya can't hold a candle to 'im.

Gantry snakeoil salesman"

-- is sensationally good.
