ABC Continues Downing Street Blackout--Contact Peter Jennings ASAP
:bounce:

The good people at http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/takeaction.html
report:
"We made ABC News a target last week, without any measurable impact so far. Last night they gave no attention to the discussion of DSM at the Presidential press conference. On-line they have an AP report by Jennifer Loven with a brief, and grossly inaccurate, mention of DSM"

So today they are being targeted again. You can contact Peter Jennings at:

ABC World News Tonight
email: PeterJennings@abcnews.com
phone: 212-456-4040
fax: 212-456-2795

There other targets for today are:

1. National Public Radio, Ombudsman Jeff Dvorkin
email: ombudsman@npr.org
phone: 202-513-2000
fax: 202-513-3329

2. Philadelphia Inquirer, Deputy Managing Editor for News Carl Lavin
email: clavin@phillynews.com
phone: 215-854-4562
OR National News Editor Ned Warwick
email: nwarwick@phillynews.com

Be sure and check with http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/takeaction.html
daily for new targets

1. not that it will make a tinker's damn of difference
Ok Peter quite honestly, time for you to cover some real news.

I know, I know the kid is missing in Aruba (not national news), and Jacko's trial will be over soon, (not real news) but the Downing Street Minutes ARE real news

They raise to the level of impeachment you know, after all a President LIED to Congress and the American people... who owns you? I mean CBS has an excuse and even they are covering it (GE we bring good wars to life).... so how about it? Get with the program, we are talking of the US Constitution after all and the once mighty Fourth Estate

Anyway, back to the Guardian since they do cover news...

3. I hate to say this about Peter
but I have the feeling that he is dying. We haven't seen or heard much of anything about him and I think he's there at ABC News in name only. If he could, I'd bet he would make an appearance or two just to keep his hand in. I feel terrible for the guy. Always liked him.

8. Well he has cancer.
Only him and his doctors know if he is dying, but he is probably sicker than hell right now.

4. Dean, Kerry, Hillary, Reid etc continue their black out on this issue too.
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 04:11 PM by Dr Fate
All of them refuse to speak up so far.

ABC would have no excuse to ignore it if Top DEMs would speak out- but they refuse.

5. The reason ANY media is covering it now is because Kerry pointed a finger
at them last week for their inexplicable silence on it. Kerry said he'd raise the issue in DC and now other Senators are talking about it.

The senate floor is all about the Brown nomination last few days.

I think the major push on DSM is about to begin.

My guess is that Clinton asked the Dems to hear Blair out about why he went along with Bush behind the scenes.

They met with him this AM.

We'll see.

7. What did they all say about it today, and in what forum?
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 04:34 PM by Dr Fate
And why are we waiting on a Republican owned corporation to spread the word about this?

ALL DEMs should be openly talking about his memo instead of talking about Dean and racial issues. Not on a website that only the base sees- but on TV or at least in newspaper interviews or somthing more accessable.

It's just plain silly for us to expect the GOP owned media to say what needs to be said about this.

9. I agree with that.
I'm submitting that (by my radar) I would bet that Clinton asked them to hold their fire till they have a chance to talk to Blair personally just to hear him out on his side of it. Maybe Blair knows he's going down in England and may be useful to bring down Bush.

I do expect some action and I expect it to be soon. We forced it into the media. Kerry pushed it further. We have to keep up the pressure on all of them.

11. Check recent thread. Kerry did make a statement yesterday about DSM
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 05:02 PM by blm
Looks like the press didn't add it to their stories. The statement's pretty tough.

THE SMOKING GUN?
Kerry, Bush, and the Downing Street memo
BY DAN KENNEDY

<snip>

In a statement e-mailed to the Phoenix on Tuesday, Kerry spokesman Setti Warren said, "Senator Kerry believes every American deserves a thorough explanation of the Downing Street memo. The Administration and the Washington Republicans who control Congress insult Americans by refusing to answer even the most basic questions raised in this memo about pre-war intelligence and planning for the aftermath of war. That’s unacceptable, especially with the lives of America’s sons and daughters on the line. John Kerry will demand answers in the Senate. Stay tuned."

12. Great- but of course the press ignores an e-mail.
That's why they need to be on those interview & debate shows making pointed comments.

13. heh....all booked up talking about Dean and the Dems.
Way more important.

Dean should agree to an interview and then force the interviewer to address DSM by bringing ecvery question back to the importance of it to our nation's credibility around the world.

‘Downing Street memo' gets fresh attention
By Mark Memmott
USA TODAY

A simmering controversy over whether American media have ignored a secret British memo about how President Bush built his case for war with Iraq bubbled over into the White House on Tuesday. At a late afternoon news conference, Reuters correspondent Steve Holland asked Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair about a memo that's been widely written about and discussed in Europe but less so in the USA. It was the most attention paid by the media in the USA so far to the “Downing Street memo,” first reported on May 1 by The Sunday Times of London. The memo is said by some of the president's sharpest critics, such as Democratic Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, to be strong evidence that Bush decided to go to war and then looked for evidence to support his decision. ....much more

This made page A8, but it's better than nothing. :)
