Jerome Corsi stretches the facts until they scream...
... "I give up!"

"Author and commentator Dr. Jerome Corsi is one of those who feels Mark Felt's clandestine leaks to the Washington Post during the Watergate investigation helped create the atmosphere that led to the tearing down of America's defense structure. Corsi says Felt's revelations led to a series of events, including "the Church committee, the dismantling of America's intelligence system, the weakening of the FBI, the detriment of our ability to catch criminals, including international criminals," and "a web that has made it impossible for the CIA to function and protect us and may even have led to 9/11." Felt is a villain, not a hero, Corsi asserts. Because of "the weakening that the Left wanted to do on the intelligence administration," he says, "for them Mark Felt is also a hero. And for us on the conservative Right, Mark Felt did a great disservice to the United States in pursuit of his personal goals by helping the cause of the Left to weaken our so badly needed intelligence and law enforcement services." For these reasons, Corsi concludes, in the final analysis Felt is "more of a villain than hero." And instead of lionizing Felt as a hero, the author contends, the national media should have vilified "Deep Throat" as Corsi feels they did with other whistleblowers such as Linda Tripp, Paula Jones, and Kathleen Willey."

And, for those with CNN Headline News-addled short-term memories, Dr. Corsi is the co-author of Unfit for Command, the Swift Boat Liars' compendium of tales of mystery and imagination....

3. Well, I doubt seriously that Corsi...
... and his ilk could have prevented that loss (that was fore-ordained in the roots of the war itself).

What does amaze me is that this sort of intellectual flatulence gets wide distribution, but no one in the mainstream feels the need to savage him for such illogic. Anyone remotely conversant with the facts of the time could ruin this argument, if that's what it's loosely called. But, still it gets advertised.

It's a puzzlement.

Cheers.

4. So basically what he's saying is that Felt acted in a partisan
manner (since when is helping to uncover a crime a partison act?) but his condemnation of Felt is not a partisan act.

Huh.

5. I think he's trying to say much more than that...
... and none of it makes any sense. It's an attempt to tie Felt's actions to a host of events he considers to be motivated by the left--and therefore, the left's acknowledgement of Felt's value in Watergate is confirmation of the left's attempts to destroy systems of government which might have protected us from an event almost thirty years in the future, 9/11.

It's the worst kind of sophistry, but he seems to get away with it, and all too regularly. That's what mystifies me.

Cheers.

6. It mystifies me why he is even given the visibility
he has been given. His hate filled comments should have made it clear that he is a very odious person. He has no special expertise on Watergate and is not, to my knowledge, considered a reputable historian or scholar.

It surprises my that the right doesn't hide people like Liddy and Corsi. They are really bad people to use if you are trying to convince people of the rightness of your cause. I would actually find a pleasant mannered good looking person sprouting the same stuff far more dangerous.

What's funny is that he is assigning Felt to the left. Although the left was ecstatic with the fall of Nixon, it is ironic that deep throat was an embittered right winger.
