Clark won't give * a pass on being AWOL
I've known someone who graduated West Point with academic honors. Even more important than grades, though, is the military honor code, which means everything to the students and faculty. I'm sure Clark has seen all the in your face information we all have on *'s missing 18 months during his time in the TX National Guard. Even if Michael Moore hadn't endorsed the General, Clark wouldn't enable such behavior on *'s part. No way.

6. I would have been impressed...
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 08:52 PM by yowzayowzayowza
if Clark had used his defensive position (haven't reviewed the material/not relevant) as a fulcrum to force Jennings to explain the foundation for the authoritative frame of the question.

13. He should have forced...
Jennings to do some ACTUAL REPORTING by challenging his assertion:

"Now, that’s a reckless charge not supported by the facts."

Obviously Peter is claiming to have reviewed the facts. Yes?

4. That wouldn't be his style
I think he will again defend Moore's right to speak that opinion and he WILL leave it as an open issue. I think, though, that he might slip some sly dig in at Bush. Clark prefers to attack an opponent for things that he has done in office, not in his personal life.

2. I think he needs to continue to let others, like Moore, do it
While he looks presidential.

5. He is handeling it
just fine. At the dinner tonight he mentioned that * can fly half way around the world, but cant go to Arlington to honor 1 dead Soldier. Is it because he has a guilty conscience? Thats if he even has a conscience.
Go Clark!

12. Yes...he is slowly building up to that moment when he faces Bush
on a debate stage.

He is subtly sending the message to Democratic voters that HE and only HE can challenge Bush on this.

9. "I will not lie, cheat, or steal, not tolerate those who do."
I really think that Clark still lives by that creed; so I agree... he's not the type to let Bush get away with that crap.

10. I think he'd rather lose the nomination than deny the code he's lived
by all his life. Politics just wouldn't be worth it to him.

11. How would it benefit Clark to play the AWOL card during Democratic
battle for the nomination?

It WON'T.

Wait until he faces Bush on the stage in a nationally televised debate.

That would be the perfect time for him to ask Bush to account for his missing year in Alabama. That would be the perfect time for him to tell bush, "It's not my duty to prove you weren't there, because I can't prove a negative. It's YOUR duty to show the American people you were there and that you fulfilled your Air National Guard duty. If you are going to send men and women to war, then you need to prove you fulfilled your responsibilities in the military. There is no evidence to show that you did."

THAT'S when he should use the AWOL card. It serves no purpose BEFORE he is on a stage facing Bush.

15. I don't think he needs to play it or bring it up himself.
But you know the media whores are going to try to pin him down on it. I just do not believe he'll defend the drunken AWOL bastard, IF he has the information we all do. That would constitute abandoning every ethical principle Clark has based his life on.

17. How 'bout this...
Clark defeats * in November, and then requires him to complete his National Guard duty -- on the front lines of Iraq.

I thought Dean & Kerry had the most support from the audience. Who is Senator Leahy supporting?
