So I got this piece of crap in my E-Mail..... (Andy Rooney sux)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subject: Did you know....

Andy Rooney

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DID YOU KNOW? As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view ... it is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!

.

DID YOU KNOW?

As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

DID YOU KNOW?

As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall,
right above where the Supreme Court judges sit,
a display of the Ten Commandments!

DID YOU KNOW?

There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington, D.C.

DID YOU KNOW?

James Madison, the fourth president, known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement:

"We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

DID YOU KNOW?

Patrick Henry, that patriot and Founding Father of our country said:
"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ".

DID YOU KNOW?

Every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayer since 1777.

DID YOU KNOW?

Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies.

DID YOU KNOW?

Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law would begin making law . an oligarchy
the rule of few over many.

DID YOU KNOW?

The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, said:

"Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers."

How, then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional?
.

Lets put it around the world and let the world see and remember what this great country was built on.

Chamber, US House of Representatives

I was asked to send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn't. Now it is your turn...
It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, it is very hard to understand why there is such a mess about having the Ten Commandments on display or "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the other 14% to Sit Down

If you agree, pass this on

So I sent this response to the repuke "minister" who sent this garbage to me:

Hey Jack......DID YOU KNOW.....
That we have a REPUBLICAN "CHRISTIAN" President, the republicans have the
MAJORITY in the Supreme Court,The House,The Senate, the MAJORITY of
Governors are Republican.....we have a MAJORITY of Republicans who run
everything from school board councils straight on up the chain to the
Supreme court. We have the Christian right with their own cozy little office
right in the White House dictating to bu$h and Karl Rove in what they should
do.
Don't blame us Democrats....we have no say in ANYTHING. We are under
REPUBLICAN rule. That ought to tell you something..... :o)

And hit "Reply To All" to make sure all the RW nutters get the link.

10. Even if it was bunk (see earlier posted links to Snopes) ...

The math is faulty. While only 14% of the country are Atheist, the number who favor the separation of church and state is much larger.

Hindus and Bhuddists aren't Atheists. But I doubt they're interested in erecting ten ton monuments to the Ten Commandments.

Remember that court ruling against prayer before high school football games in Tejas? That suit was brought by Roman Catholics in a region where RCs are routinely put down and harrassed by the Protestant majority. Remember Roy Moore's Ten Commandments? Those were Protestant commandments. What the RCs consider the 1st Commandment, Protestants split into two separate commandments. The 2nd Protestant Commandment is the cornerstone of the argument that Catholics are idolators.

As an Atheist I have no dog in this race, but I must say that the Catholic interpretation makes a heck of a lot more sense to me than the Protestant. It seems obvious to me that the admonition against worshipping idols refers to worshipping no God before Yaweh. After all, noone worships the idol. They worship the God that idol represents.

The Jews, whose Ten Commandments these were to begin with, interpret them completely differently. Surely the vast majority of them oppose their taxes being used on such purposes. And while the Ten Commandments are part of the Islamic ancestry, I imagine most Muslims would much rather see those five or seven rules of Islam (I forget what it's called) enshrined.

And then, of course, there are simply large numbers of mainstream Protestants who are well aware of the terrible past involving state religions and who oppose it for that reason.

By the time you do the math you will find that two out of three Americans support the separation of church and state. So maybe we should just tell that other guy to SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!!

12. Stay alert DUers..
Every time I get email trash like that, it's debunked with a quick google. Then I reply with links to everyone on the list. It's amazing how people just accept junk because it sounds logical and appears in an email.

I firmly believe that the right wing sends out stuff like this intentionally, trying to keep the sheeple in line...
