7. Vichy Democrats
There is also an action alert at the top of Kos which if you click on it refers to Feinstein and Biden as Vichy Democrats. That's about as perfect a label for their type of democrat as I've ever read.

10. Maybe this shows my youth, but...
What does the "Vichy" label connotate? It sounds French... Something from the French Revolution?

12. Vichy government
“In World War II, the right-wing government of unoccupied France after the country’s defeat by the Germans in June 1940, named after the spa town of Vichy, France, where the national assembly was based under Prime Minister Pétain until the liberation in 1944. Vichy France was that part of France not occupied by German troops until November 1942. Authoritarian and collaborationist, the Vichy regime cooperated with the Germans even after they had moved to the unoccupied zone in November 1942. It imprisoned some 135,000 people, interned another 70,000, deported some 76,000 Jews, and sent 650,000 French workers to Germany.”

24. Hey, SoCalifer, I have a question for you!
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 03:51 PM by PassingFair
I notice all of your union "flash" and I wonder if you have insight that I don't have into union endorsements.

I was involved in Dean for America in the early days before the primary. I went to several rallies and fundraisers for Dean. I felt a bit like I was swimming upstream with a few other salmon.

As the primaries heated up, several local unions came out strongly for Dean, I remember that the IUPAT (Painter Union, I think) and AFCSME and another union with purple insignia endorsed him. The first union rally I attended really blew me away. Suddenly, we salmon had joined up with vast SCHOOLS of determined fish. Fish that knew how to make noise and change the course of the current. I cried that day, I was so happy to see such a HUGE influx to the progressive movement. Although I grew up in Detroit, I was never fortunate enough to be in a union.

Now, the UAW and the AFLCIO were not so forward with their endorsements. In fact, I had to wait for the nod from my county chairman to propose a resolution that Dean be supported for DNC Chair. The UAW still has a huge amount of political power here in Michigan.

My question is, why aren't they encouraging THEIR members to fight against this administration? There's nothing STOPPING them from endorsing, they seem to be afraid to put their necks out for any candidate. But, JEEZE! It can't get much worse for the big unions than it already is, could it?

Any input would be appreciated, and I fully support Unions!

31. Howard was right.
He said "pretty much a white, christian party" and it is.

Read this and tell me different:
http://www.retrovsmetro.org/book/chapter_4.html

"The Republican Party, as represented by its affiliated lawmakers in the state legislatures, is almost 99 percent white, 82.2 percent male, and 1.1 percent minority. By contrast, Democratic state lawmakers are about 80 percent white, 72.6 percent male, and 20.1 percent minority."

Let our mortified "leaders" line up with Lieberman for a Dubya group hug. While they`re busy doing that, Dean can show the rest of them what it means to have some backbone.

Can someone tell me why the signatures are now saying "pending approval" I know there was a freeper jerk on there when they stopped displaying the signatures. Is that why? What do they do to approve the signatures? The confirmation e-mail?
