For the record: Wes Clark Proud of Howard Dean
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 08:13 PM by WesDem
Wes spoke tonight at the Annual Flag Day Dinner--Manchester City Democratic Committee in New Hampshire.

According to WesPAC:

General Clark in his remarks reminded us that we owe it to ourselves and our party to rise above bitter name calling and partisan fighting so we can, as a nation tackle the tough challenges ahead. He said he was proud of our party and proud of Howard Dean for being a fighter.

C-Span was there taping, so his entire speech should be on at some point.

3. Is Wes the Best or what? Supports Dean, Opposed Iraq, is a "libera"
by his own admission.

He's my candidate for 2008, regardless of what Bob Novak says.

Let's make sure they don't steal it from us again.

4. Clarke was my first choice in 2004
but I busted my ass for John Kerry once he was the nominee. Let's start building Clark's 2008 campaign now while we witness the wheels coming off the * administration. I think Clark can unite the party and appeal to a lot of disillusioned Republicans. I like Dean stirring up a hornet's nest. From Cheney's remarks I would say he is having an impact.

a card carrying member of WesPAC?

:-)

We want the General's voice out there because he has the credentials to take on the republicans where they live. Wes Clark spent his life earning an average of $50,000 a year, he has no congressional staff and must pay for the trips he makes, only the "roots" can keep him going.

People think I post about Clark because of '08, actually, we need him out there in '06...he can call them out on Iraq and so many other things.

There...I said it. I'm done.

That it was in the course of ordinary speechmaking, not in a media trap, but voluntarily offering his opinion. He would have said the same thing had he been asked, but it's nice he didn't need to be asked.

21. Great to see Dems united
Its great to see the Dems united, especially for the next coming month while the Republicans are feuding and we can still win a few battles in the Senate. I have a feeling we're gonna see General Clark being a lot for vocal this summer and interacting more with netroots activists as the impending Supreme Court nomination comes.

I was hoping some of you may want to help with a petition that several of us former Clark campaign staff members have put up and also get some feedback. I hope you check it out:

Any time that Clark has an opportunity to criticize a fellow Dem he will turn it around to criticism of the Administration. Other Dems would be wise to do the same....We really aren't going to win anything if we don't act like we're in this together...and it's SO IMPORTANT that we start winning something....

27. I never doubted it.. Clark appreciates another fighter.
Did you ever see this quote from Clark, taken from some magazine interview he once did:

"Somebody once told me in business that when you're
going to negotiate a business deal, you stake out
(Clark slams the table) your position and stand on it!
Don't go in there and ask what they want. Say, `Here's
what I want!' (slams table again).
"You've got a Republican Party under Gingrich and Tom
DeLay that says, `Here's what I want' (slams table
again.) "Then you've got the Democrats over here
saying, `Yeah, ah, yeah, we could, some of what you
say makes pretty good sense.

"The result is the American people don't see the full
spectrum. Before the 2002 election there were a lot of
Democratic politicians apparently who said, `I don't
have the information. I can't battle with the
president on the information. He's got the
intelligence. What if there is a smoking gun in there?
I can't fight the president in my congressional
district.'

"What we've got to do is stake (slams table again) out
our position. For instance on tax reform, stop (slam)
saying (slam) you agree with simplification of the tax
code. . . . We stand (slam) for progressive taxation.
We're proud of it. If you make more, you should pay
more, period!"
Wesley Clark

Howard Dean is a Democrat who understands that. Of course Clark is proud of him.

Clark realizes who the *real* enemy is, and he knows that Democrats who tear each other apart only end up hurting and weakening themselves. Clark is a real uniter, and a fighter for principles like Howard Dean.

34. "Get Some Starch!"
A WesPAC blogger who has been making buttons and handing them out for free, gave out at least a hundred tonight at the Flag Day Dinner. It's the General's favorite of the buttons, sporting one of the blogs favorite Wesquotes: Get Some Starch!

Dean has starch... and now some lucky members of tonight's audience have buttons to remind them of what it takes to be a Democrat.

As for the General? He's got starch to spare. Besides, it's his order to all of us...

...and yes, we must rise up and offer to heal our country's deep divides upon which no house can stand.

44. The quote:
In case anyone missed it!

snip

He stood behind Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean, who has been criticized by fellow party members for making comments that were perceived as inflammatory.

“I’m proud of Howard Dean. I’m proud of our party,” Clark said. “I’m proud of the fact that we are Americans speaking out.”
