Should I film Conyers Hearing or is C-SPAN going to do it? I'll go to DC
if I can scrape up the planefare, etc for it - I've got access to a HiDef camera/lap mikes, etc, and I've got a buddy in DC that can get me into the hearings there, I've done it before when I filmed for the Electronic Vote hearings..

I'm just worried that CSPAN won't cover it, and I have everything I need to film and interview people there - it's a long haul from Hawaii, but I'll do it to make sure that it get's documented..

Maybe I should ask the Admins if I can fund raise for a trip to DC for one or two days so that this doesn't get lost down the Media Memory hole..

I'm cheap but effective :)

My wife's old college lobby pal gets us into places and I'm pretty sure I can get to Conyers and a few others too..

I really feel this is so important, maybe I should contact the Downing Street Memo sites and see if they are interested in someone documenting this.

With actual video the media can't screw with people - you have the TRUTH right in your camera - I also have all the editing tools I need and can output printed DVDS 100 at a time.

Before I ask the Admin I just want to see if there's any interest in doing something like this..

Opinions? Ideas?

Is CSPAN going to cover it, anyone know for sure?

I know some of you have seen my work at http://www.takebackthemedia.com and that I have been on O'Reilly once and Joe Scarborough twice and I don't take any prisoners.. :)

Scarborough threatened to cut off our mikes on the first show

(Just so the mods know, I am NOT fundraising, just seeing if there's any interest in case there could be a need for fundraising, which I would do at my own site, unless the Admin were interested.)

3. You May Have To, After The Sensenbrenner Meltdown !!!
I get the feeling after that episode, C-Span may not be allowed to film anything the rePukes don't want filmed.

You could start DU-Span!!!

7. Yes!
Even if c-span says they will, you should try -- the more coverage the better, and as someone pointed out, with Sensenbrenner's antics the other day, I wouldn't take any chances with just one media outlet covering it. I'll pitch in. Sign up for the Amazon pay thing so people can donate annonymously if they want.

8. Have you thought about:
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 12:59 AM by paineinthearse
1. The location of the hearing?
2. Security / access?

I recommend you contact your own Rep. for logistical assistance / room passes, or the Dem HJC staff.

PM me for contact info for the latter.

10. Thanks
We've done this before where we filmed a congressional hearing, we've assisted others with web casting from there as well - we've got a pretty good insider lobbyist who's worked in DC for a long time and knows everyone..

But that doesn't mean we won't pass up any other potential assistance.

Depends on how much interest there is in someone going there to film, and I'd definately be up for interviewing Mr Conyers (we got to interview Wexler, Avi Ruben, etc in Washington while filming the last movie we made - my wife set up all the interviews for the film and did a great job..) this is on the fly, but we've done well under pressure.

I appreciate your generosity, let's see how this pans out :)

And thanks to everyone else who's realising that our axcess my soon dissapear - remember they regard SECRECY as their number one tool and can't control loose cameras. Yet.

18. You will probably have to contact C-SPAN to be sure
It is very unlikely that it will be covered live, as C-SPAN always gives priority to the full House when it is in session. But they may tape it and replay it.

27. But CSPAN did repeat the "unofficial" Sensenbrenner meeting!
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 09:37 PM by calipendence
I got it on tape later in the evening...

That meeting has to be on record as the most "documented, undocumented" government meeting segment in our nation's history! I'm sure that CSPAN's ratings of that meeting in repeats had to be through the roof. Anyone have any ratings on this meeting at all?

If they are governed at all by profit, I'm sure they will put stuff like this on...

22. I love the concept of
DU SPAN as one poster put it..

I wrote to admin so it's up to the gods themselves now :)

Did I ever tell you about the time Skinner caught a baby that had fallen from a ten story building in one hand? What's really remarkable is that he was posting a thread on helping Andy at the same time, while talking to Hillary about her run on the cell phone.. :)

They've created a think tank here and a lot of people don't realise it..

thanks for the info and the offers folks!

Someone mentioned a while back (couple weeks ago) having our own segment on AAR too. I think it'd be just awesome if DU became it's own news media org. We certainly don't have any other damned news media we can depend on.

21. I don't see anything on CSPAN saying they wil cover this
So I'm going to ask Admin if they will let me fundraise to go there, or get behing it - I would literally have to leave Hawaii tomorrow, and I have to contact our lobbyist for access - get the nod..

If they'll allow me to fundraise for this and I get donations fairly quickly I can wing out of here and get there the day before - if anything goes wrong I'll need to know who everyone is who donated so they can get their money back.

I'd also like to make sure that people who donate get the hearing on DVD's, with any leftover bucks from flying, staying, filming, editing, shipping, being donated back to DU..if that's okay with the donors

I'll contact admin and see if they are up for it,

thanks everyone!

(This will probably kill me but I've always taken things to the wall so what the hell, it's a great cause :) )

24. Yeah, cute, eh?
He's only going to present more than a half a million signatures of WE THE PEOPLE demanding the TRUTH..

It's up to US, and the Masai tribe have a saying, "The Truth cannot be Hidden." if you have the truth in the camera then it is very REAL..

Imagine leaving DVDs of this hearing laying around in laundromats, airports, etc for the general public to see? Dvd's are getting cheaper to replicate all the time..

Plus I have a broadcast quality HiDefinition camera so that anything I shot could be shown on TV easily..

We can demand that CNN show portions of it, etc.. or eventually stream it on the web..

28. On FSTV's BLACKED OUT MEDIA program
after the election, they were giving ideas on how to handle the lack of media.

Here are some ideas for you from that show -

Definitely record it!!! And make copies, and deliver them to the news.
Whether it's pics or video.

Call local media outlets, and let them know what is going on, as in a news tip.

Have your friend in DC contact the more liberal reporters from the local newspapers, and let them know what is going on.

Very very cool if you can be there! I'm jealous!

34. i'd be happy to kick in a little something to help out
i think it would be great if you could get there and film it for various reasons:

1. if the span doesn't cover it then at least you did

2. if you film it you could share your video with the "media" along with pics for the print media

3. you could send audio to radio stations

4. maybe michael moore or bob greenwald might like to use some of your footage for a future documentary

5. all of us would like to see it! (there are over half a million who put their names on the list that are politically invested in this event!)

6. if the span covers it they might get their mics cut again

7. you could get the "man on the street" interview/perspective

8. you might get better shots than c-span.

9. you'll have some original history making footage

10. besides, you always wanted to go to D.C. this time of year, right?

35. I'm GOING and I will FILM the hell out of this :)
I've scraped the bucks together along with some beautiful folks that contacted me and donated to the cause (they are getting DVDs) so I'M GOING and I WILL do what you all are saying - if CSPAN gets cut off, *I* won't :)

I'm going to get perspectives from as many people as possible, every mucky muck I can get to.. AfterDowningStreet.org is helping me out (and thereby helping us ALL out - great site) and I will cover it all, Rally too..

I haven't gotten the goahead from admin so I can't raise any funds here without getting this thread locked and breaking rules, so I don't want to do that :)

I'll be spending a little more than 48 hours hitting everyone I can.. I really wish I could show this work in HiDefinition, as it's beautiful, but there aren't any tech ways to show HiDef other than broadcast..

I hope that this footage will get spread far and wide, that Mr Greenwald or Moore will use some of it and that THIS IS THE MOMENT in History where as Mark Twain quoted "History doesn't repeat itself.. but it RHYMES.."

In other words a NIXXON moment!

I'll be back on Saturday and editing like a madman so that as many people can see this as possible one way or another..

Thanks for all your help and don't hesitate to contact me if you want to help with advice, etc.

DU ROCKS, don't forget to send THEM a donation!

For more info about what I'm doing you can go to http://www.takebackthemedia.com

thanks all, advice taken!

42. before you go.......
i've sent you the same message via pm and i hope you see one of these soon.

randi rhodes just said that conyers will not be given a meeting room in their building to conduct this hearing regarding the petition. apparently the repukies get to hand out rooms and they've pretty much told conyers to screw off!

randi said the meeting was still going to take place--she said she knows where it is going to be but she wouldn't say.

i just wanted to tell you this so you know what's happening--you're going to have to find out where it is going to be held. but she said it will not be in the building/house.

so--with this in mind--who knows if c-span will cover it---

it's a good thing you decided to go. i'm glad to hear it.

i don't know how to get a little money to you at this point--maybe after you get back you might pm me and let me know how i can buy a copy of the dvd or something. maybe let all of us know that are on this thread.

good luck--and thank you again for the passion.
