Anybody here have anything to do with the AFL-CIO?

I read something in our local paper this weekend about several unions which are ready to break with the AFL-CIO. What the heck is going on? What is the dispute? Why the heck would the AFL-CIO be putting up a roadblock to a coordinated labor movement at this time in history?
