Dean needs to use more "Twain" in his speeches
Howard Dean needs to glean over the writings of Mark Twain to get a more witty way of getting his message out, imho.

Here are some examples that perhaps he should even use in speeches (with due credit) :
"Patriot: the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about."

"Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."

"Honesty: the best of all the lost arts."

"If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything."

"Never tell the truth to people who are not worthy of it."

"A man is never more truthful than when he acknowledges himself as a liar."

"An inglorious peace is better than a dishonorable war."

"A man can be a Christian or a patriot, but he can't legally be a Christian and a patriot--except in the usual way: one of the two with the mouth, the other with the heart. The spirit of Christianity proclaims the brotherhood of the race and the meaning of that strong word has not been left to guesswork, but made tremendously definite- the Christian must forgive his brother man all crimes he can imagine and commit, and all insults he can conceive and utter- forgive these injuries how many times?--seventy times seven--another way of saying there shall be no limit to this forgiveness. That is the spirit and the law of Christianity.

Well--Patriotism has its laws. And it also is a perfectly definite one, there are not vaguenesses about it. It commands that the brother over the border shall be sharply watched and brought to book every time he does us a hurt or offends us with an insult. Word it as softly as you please, the spirit of patriotism is the spirit of the dog and wolf. The moment there is a misunderstanding about a boundary line or a hamper of fish or some other squalid matter, see patriotism rise, and hear him split the universe with is war-whoop. The spirit of patriotism being in its nature jealous and selfish, is just in man's line, it comes natural to him- he can live up to all its requirements to the letter; but the spirit of Christianity is not in its entirety possible to him.

The prayers concealed in what I have been saying is, not that patriotism should cease and not that the talk about universal brotherhood should cease, but that the incongruous firm be dissolved and each limb of it be required to transact business by itself, for the future."

- Mark Twain's Notebook

1. We don't want Dean doing a "Biden"
"Biden" is synonymous with plagiarizing.

3. Or a Reagan. Did that man ever say anything that wasn't
borrowed without attribution from somebody else?

4. I mentioned that Dean would give credit...
And yes, Biden will never live the plagiarizing thing down...

As for Dean, he would say something like "As a great American, Mark Twain once said......"

OR...

Look at how Twain sculpted a phrase and see that it is witty and timeless in many respects. For example, instead of saying that the Republicans are nothing more than a white, Christian party...say something like:

The top leaders in the Republican Party seem to believe in heavenly goals while reaping hell on those that need blessing more.

Instead of saying that the Republicans never worked a day in their life, mention something like:

I'd rather shake the rough-skinned hand of a working man who calls himself a Democrat over the womenly softness of a Republican aristocrat.

A little more wit...leave words like "hate", sophmoric finger-pointing and other sloppy comments to the RW punditry.

5. "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything."
That's why Bush has so much trouble with public speaking. It's hard work, remembering all those lies and the spin.

6. Forget Twain use Talosian Power Point and some Funky Bunkie:
Talosian Close Encounters (Funky Bunkie):

After two years of contemplating personal experiences with religious and overly zealous “Christian” conservatives (right wing), I have come to draw one conclusion. Dean was not too far in left field by calling them what he did but rather in the passion of the moment, he was obviously not thinking very democratically. In light of a proposed better choice, I think Talosian is applicable by implying a more graphic and symbolic meaning of the empire.
(Chief Talosian of 1966)

I refer to an earlier statement made by a familiar Talosian zealot and monarchist:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, well lets see.... why? Why do you left wing wanna be spiritualists have to set out on your life long journeys to try and find some "code" "conspiracy" or "meaning" to life? You move around from town to town and think that you can walk in with your ideals and thoughts of what America should and every one will be just like you and except you with open arms. Then when the road gets bumpy whats the first thing you pull out of your hat? Oh look everyone the "race" card! You bought a new house in the f-ing town. Its a small town... EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE!!! :)-You are looking for excuses! Ill tell you where you belong... in California with every one else like you.
Shame on you. -- Newbie quick

A republic oriented point of view very Talosian and non-democratic.
Obviously the prolonged effects of long-term Talosian exposure:

Space the final frontier these are the voyages of the starship Enterprise its continuing mission to explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man had gone before... -- Prelude to Star Trek. Swoosh…

A Suggestion for Talosian monarchists (Right Wing Wackos): Plato was not a colored malleable substance that can be molded to ones will but rather a philosopher. Please refer to Plato’s Stepchildren (The Sons of Socrates) for further enlightenment. http://soundwavs.trekkieguy.com/3/65/power.wav

We know were Talos IV is located!

“The Left Wing Liberal Team Salute – Live long and prosper!”

Recently UFO Investigated (and building the file)!

Reference:

Talosian - A race of beings eager to study human beings in their natural state while creating illusions to make things appear exactly as they would like.

Talos IV — A planet to which a visit carries the death penalty (for left wing liberals).

Talosian UFO – Left-wing sightings on Talos IV resulting in possible terrorism reports to officials.

911 – A government code (formula) usually preceding a Talosian UFO report and used for determining the percentage of liberals investigated for posting political propaganda like this using Al’s democratic media.
