Dennis Kucinich made his best speech I've seen tonite
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 11:34 PM by Armstead
I caught the candidate's speeches att the NH Democratic Party dinner tonite on CSpan.

Dennis the K made the best speech I've heard him give. It was not one of his most inspiring. Just the opposite. What was most impressive was that it was his most concise, calm and pragmatic summation of his positions and beliefs I've heard.

It was not compromising. But is was simple and straight to the heart of the matter. He spoke like an actual mainstram politician, even as he was outlining the same agenda and critique he has always given.

Because it was so accessible, it really got his message out in ways that people can understand and relate to.

If he's been more like that earlier in the campaign, I think he might have been taken a lot more seriously. Maybe if he stays with that tone and message, he might still be listened to more.

Howard the Dean was also great. Bist string but personable. Dammit if that's what the public saw more of -- instead of the media/political spin -- he'd still be a strong contender. I hope that side of him gets out more.

3. I was impressed by his speech too..
he's honed his message--"How much change are YOU ready for?" is a great summation.

4. He has been talking like this
since the beginning but you never hear it unless you are there. If you are interested, go to his web site and you can view some of his past speeches, they are all like that. I was very happy with his speech today, especially since in the last debate he seemed off.

At least you used to be able to see them, I have not looked for them in a while but go to www.kucinich.us

8. Me either
and I kinda doubt any of them will come to Kansas, perhaps KC, Mo. I saw all of what I needed on his web site, he is a very good speaker.

19. I've met him in person
Unfortunately I didn't think the speech he gave just beforehand was one of his better ones. Kind of disapointing as I traveled far.

I will vote for him in our primary.

12. I wish people would only follow their hearts
Sigh, more and more by the day it seems like IWR is the litmus test for people yet why arnet people supporting Kucinich, I believe it was Emerson who once said "This time like all times is a good one if we but know what to do with it.", DK gives me hope, he really does,

9. like an actual mainstream politician?
I havent seen another politician who spoke so openly, honestly, forthrightly and correctly about REAL issues. He has been like this all along, it is simply a matter of familiarity and occasion. The first time I saw him in person was great, BUT, a recording of the previous days speech in the Bay area was played on the radio the following day, and it was a MINDBLOWER! I wished and wished for a CD of that speech to pass around. The most impressive thing about this heartfelt speaker is his fearless, direct responses to any questions. How many times can you hear a shady politician couch his response in canned loopy messages that never directly address a question? This pure honesty is what will draw voters of any persuasion. It is why he SHOULD, MUST be President of the USA. We deserve the best.

10. Politics is mainstream.
What I meant was that he avoided getting too loud or strident , and he stated his basic "message" in the kind of soundbite language that is necessary to break through the clutter.

A mondblower of a speech may be fine for people who are already inclined to share one's beliefs. But in order to reach people who are not in that mindset, it's necessary to get to the point quickly.

His message was the same, but the delivery was much better for an audience he had to convince.

13. I think you are discounting my points
for whatever reason. A mindblower is a mindblower is a mindblower. If he spoke well one night but EXCEEDINGLY well the day before, that tells me your conclusion, that he has improved, is mistaken.

16. So what else is new?
Getting 1+% of the delegates in Iowa is actually quite an accomplishment for an invisible man.

Seriously, Armstead, if you get a chance to hear DK live, you should. He's amazing in the Q&A sessions, kind of Phil Donahuesque in his ability to relate to a crowd.

20. I agree- seeing him live and even before & after he speaks...
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 04:18 PM by Desertrose
is really quite amazing. He spoke at the (Navajo)Dine Bidziil conference last weekend in Farmington NM and it was very inspiring....but watching as he received a Blessing from the Navajo elder/medicine man was very very moving.

Link to Farmington visit http://www.indiancountry.com/?1074963588

I've seen him speak (live) on about three different occasions and he is a great speaker- clear and concise and always gets his message out. It is so disappointing to have him be continually ignored...I just wonder why they are so afraid to have him heard...wait a minute I'm pretty sure I know why.

...and about the strident thing...how would you feel if you knew you had good answers & information to add to the debate/discussion and you knew everytime your reply time would be cut or shortened or simply disappeared. Can you imagine how incredibly frustrating that would be?? Yet he does the best with what he has and just keeps on keeping on. I give the man great credit for that.....lots more patience than I have LOL

He does relate so well to people one on one and when you talk to him- there is no one else in the room with you.....you are as important to him as the guy with the TV camera. Never saw another "politican" do that...they are always checking to see if there is someone more important around....

Dennis simply rocks!!

Peace
DR

18. I'm hearing this elsewhere...
...and it doesn't surprise me. Your assessment confirms my feeling that support for Dennis really could shoot up if/when people get to see more of him. I was fortunate to see him in Iowa a lot, but it took several times and various settings to see his real breadth and depth and repertoire of presentation styles (which is amazing, really). I've seen people get very excited about the Kucinich they saw in person and then say he was much better than they realized from televised debates.
