Do You Ever Have "Dark" Thoughts About Some Dem Politicians??
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 09:52 AM by DemocracyInaction
I've been a Dem since the 1960's and it wasn't until like four years ago that I started to get these "dark" thoughts. For some reason it was the attack lately on Dean (who wasn't my candidate in '04)that brought it all back to me.

I believe that there is a large group of our politicians who want us to remain in the minority and who do not want to see us again in the White House. I believe the Republican majority and presidency provides them "cover". I think they no more give a rat's ass about "the people" than the repukes do and want the nation's wealth and power to be handed wholesale over to the wealthy and the corporations. Thus, if they were in the majority they would have to vote for legislation that takes care of these entities that own them and by doing so, reveal to their constituents exactly who they are. This way they can let things become law with little or no fight, play "I love you" to the hometown crowd to get re-elected, keep the lid on things so that the repukes are protected from the people becoming really angry and throwing repukes out, and now and then cast a deciding vote with the repukes if it becomes necessary.

I'm now beginning to believe that rather than a few rotten apples, we are talking the organizational force behind it all. I think that is why this "group" wants and needs to get Dean out. They do not want a strong Dem party. They want a lucrative job lining their own pockets---at our expense.

Am I getting too paranoid?? It seems every time I turn around I'm seeing this kind of behavior from a group of Dems. Every time our "boat starts to float", they try to discreetly punch a hole in the bottom.

2. You are taking it too personal. You can hate someone's actions
without hating them on a personal level. After all they did get elected and you would have to be 1)nuts 2) anti-democratic to think that your view on them should carry more weight than someone who lives in their district and voted for them.

As frustrating as it is - you need to step back. Politicians are never going to please you all the time. It is called a big tent. And if you can't deal with that.. you can't deal with democracy.

9. applegrove--don't preach to me about dealing with democracy
How old are you---20, 25?? I've fought all the fights from Civil rights to women's rights to abortion rights, etc. in this country. And, gasp, that's what Dems fought for. If one wants to not fight for such things as these particular Dems seem to not want to do, then let them run as Republicans. They are as much 'trading' on the name Democrat to certain constituencies as the Repukes are lying to their people about being such good Christians. It's a bit hard to dig in one's pocket and send money to the Dem party when you see few of them fighting for anything remotely Democratic anymore.

3. I've thought that for 25 years, ever since
the Dems rolled over and let Reagan enact his programs, even though they controlled both Houses of Congress at first.

In particular, I got dark thoughts about the 1984 and 1988 elections. Those campaigns were so badly run and made so many slip-ups that I began wondering whether they were being controlled by people who were determined to throw the contest. I think both Mondale and Dukakis were honorable men, but they were not natural campaigners, and they received lousy, lousy advice.

Clinton was allowed in because it would look bad to have only Republican presidents for 20 years.

6. And Clinton was the next best thing to a Republican.
NAFTA.
"Welfare reform."
Don't ask, don't tell.
Bungled universal health care. (Remember the sentiment of those times. Arlan Spector ran & won as a REPUBLICAN on a universal health care plan, but Hillary bungled it with a grotesque monster of a plan that looked, schematically, like the blueprint for a Pentium processor.)
And a bunch of other things that should never have happened on a Democrat's watch.

7. I thought it was Harris Wofford who won on a health care platform
but then, I pay as little attention to Arlen Spector as possible.

I have been critical of Dean not to seek his ouster in two years, but to - get this - get a strong Dem party. Not one that feels strong to us, but a compelling one. I don't have pockets to line from corporate donations.

8. Only a handful of the elected officials in Washington give a damn
about the people who put them in office. We're just a means to an end. That's why we've been screwed over time and time again. Because it takes OUR votes to get there, they kiss our asses big time, but once the bastards are in office it's "see ya" and business-big business-as usual.

WE ARE PAWNS.

I have very little hope that any of them-save Dean, Boxer and Conyers-give a damn about US. Kerry is a disappointment, and I hate to say that, because I want to believe in him. I've continued to give him the benefit of the doubt for awhile now but I'm almost done at this point. The only people who have stepped up are Dean, Boxer and Conyers. They ROCK! They KICK ASS! Everyone else in Washington is too busy playing "the game." :eyes:

We all screwed up big time last year when we let the media demolish Dean the way they did. He would've made a great president who would have fought for US. FOR US! How rare is that?! And how pathetic that it's a rare occurrence in the first place! :grr:

10. I think it's just CYA.
Senators have to raise $10,000.00 a week to finance their reelection campaigns. If they think another Dem's remarks might kill the golden geese, they're going to get on TeeVee, shake their hairplugged heads and say "he doesn't speak for me."
