My Republican friends are defending the Southern Senators...
who did not co-sponsor the lynching apology.... They say that Senators should not be wasting time and taxpayer money engaging in feel-good symbolic grandstanding gestures.

I responded that they had no problem with symbolic gestures when those Senators gathered on the Capitol steps to make a show of mouthing "under God" inside the Pledge of Allegiance when the Ninth Circuit Court ruled it unconstitutional.

Can you think of other incidences of grandstanding?

2. "engaging in feel-good symbolic grandstanding"

What person, in considering this resoloution, would in any way 'feel good' about our nation's history of lynch mobs?

Every Republican that ever had a 'purple finger' from the Iraq vote knows ALL ABOUT engaging in feel-good symbolic grandstanding.

3. The majority of those senators are not Southerners.
Are your friends condemning the non-sponsors from the midwest, the mountain states, Alaska, and New England while letting the Southerners off the hook?

So you probably shouldn't hold your breath waiting for the originator of this thread to correct the lie he posted.

4. symbolic grandstanding gestures
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 10:40 AM by ewagner
like:

The Terri Shiavo bill passing?

The "Ten Commandments in the Classroom" bill after Columbine?

The gating to sing "God Bless America" after 9/11?

The presentation (just yesterday) of the Chicken and rice pilaf to show how "well" detainees at Gitmo are treated?

The passage of the "lacey and Conner Bill"?

All these repubs are good at is meaningless symbolic grandstanding publicity stunts.....

gimme a break!

on edit: I forgot about the stupid Freedom Fries

you'll find a ton of crap honoring this or declaring that.

You'd be amazed at how much junk gets official recognition. Didn't they pass a resolution honoring the new American Idol winner? Carrie somebody?

they SHOW UP is a grandstanding gesture that wastes time and taxpayer money.

And are they really so low they are concerned about the $311 in paper and copying this would take but are unconcerned with spending $1,000,000,000 A FUCKING WEEK in Iraq?

What about the time and money wasted renaming everything after raygoon? I bet they don't mind that one fucking bit. Bastards.

27. Republicans are brainwashed
Those of lesser intelligence are easily brainwashed by religion and patriotism. As long as they "feel better" about life, they don't care if what they believe is actually true or not. In fact suspending truth in favor of ideology seems to be required for their mode of thinking. It's kind of sad really.
