In a Bryn Mawr, PA, funraising luncheon. Raised 1.7 Million freakin bucks, over lunch! They were hoping to maybe get 750,000. This is the Philadelphia main line, where a home that sold for 15,000. 20 years ago goes for 700,000. today. The area is also very liberal in ways, very old and new money rub together. Kinda schizophrenic. Link from today's paper:
A Main Line gusher for Bush Bush's appearance at a private fund-raiser attracted about 1,000 people to a Bryn Mawr estate, where he promised to return to Pennsylvania as often as Santorum needs him to win reelection next year, according to those who attended the event.
While Santorum supporters mixed with the President and sampled tea sandwiches, quiche and crab, about 200 demonstrators lined Montgomery Avenue, several blocks away. They toted signs challenging Santorum and Bush on Social Security, environmental protection, the Iraq conflict, energy policy and gay marriage.
...How can Dems compete with this kind of capital? Santorum must go down, but 1.7 million in 2-3hours? Shit.
