2. Not a bad report in and of itself.
We shall see whether CNN turns the story upside down at some point. I would not put it past them to set up the Conyers hearings and then find a phony way to knock them down. Conyers was very careful and very honest in his approach. He did not jump to a conclusion, but correctly conveyed a "We shall see" attitude.

Bush 'plotted Iraq war from start'

In the 23 months I was there, I never saw anything that I would characterise as evidence of weapons of mass destruction

Paul O'Neill

The administration has brushed aside Paul O'Neill's comments

A top official sacked from the US Government has accused President Bush of planning for an invasion of Iraq within days of coming to office. Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill said Mr Bush was looking for an excuse to oust Saddam Hussein.

As a member of the president's National Security team he said he never saw any evidence of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

Mr O'Neill also portrayed the president as unwilling to engage in debate - a charge rejected by Bush officials.

"From the very beginning, there was a conviction Saddam Hussein was a bad person and he needed to go," the former treasury secretary said in an interview broadcast by CBS News on Sunday.

6. Yeah...maybe NOW....AFTER they worked to keep Bush in office.
But, I believe this DSM issue is just too hot for even CNN to cover up much longer.

The media has played the American people for fools for too long and enough of them are waking up now and smelling the fascism the media's been selling them for the last 10 years.

8. Actually, this report is a bit flawed...
I take exception to the poll that showed in June, 2002, 61% of Americans wanted Saddam removed from power, but now, only 42% thought the war was worth the removal of Saddam. The report fails to mention, or compare, these percentages with those Americans who believed Saddam had WMDs (another Bush lie), or was responsible for 9/11 (another Bush lie).

Simply framing this argument by saying xyz% wanted Saddam removed from power (the present spin) is disingenuous without delving into why Americans wanted him removed. Answering that "why" would only reveal more Bush lies.

9. wow. bill schneider summed it up beautifully~! "did the united states
and britain go to the united nations to avoid war or to justify it?"

thats how he ended the segment. couldnt believe it. he also said "its heating up"
perfect. theres lots more to it of course but if you want a synopsis thats easy for everyone to understand then there is one option
and its oh so true. the minutes show that bush only went to the u.n. because it was a condition that britain demanded. and we know the rest...

13. Thank you for the clip....as I still don't watch CNN!
CNN trying to minimize the impact..."it's because people are now against the war as opposed to then".... and "many knew that we were going to war"....

Yet Bush said all along, they hadn't decided to go to war.
But they had.
That's the problem that the DSM brings to the Bush admin.

Even CNN can't really argue a favorable point for this admin.....and it's not from the lack of trying!

15. So news is only reported, and therefore questions asked,
if polling shows favorable public opinion?

Bullshit. Schneider is spinning like a drunk teenager.

18. Far better
than I hoped CNN would do.

It could have been better, but not CNN in the timespan they gave it.
The issue *is* heating up. And while I don't think this is the magick bullet, I think it is another drop of poison in Karl's well.

The pugs will have to really crack the whip now to keep things together. And I see little hope that it will be doable for them in 06.
Further, I think that the 06 election better be squeaky clean, or the mother of all shitstorms will erupt under **. I would not be surprized to see Rove rioted repeatedly.
