Hastert & DeLay send Pelosi a letter, demanding condemnation of Durbin
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,159885,00.html

WASHINGTON — GOP leaders called on their Democratic counterparts Friday to denounce the comments of Sen. Dick Durbin (search), who earlier this week blasted the Guantanamo detainee camp.

House Republicans sent House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (search) a letter asking her to publicly condemn the No. 2 Senate Democrat's comments.

"Does the speech made by Senator Durbin also reflect your views as the House Democratic Leader? If not, we respectfully request that you publicly renounce Senator Durbin's comments. These sorts of irresponsible comments send the wrong message to our soldiers," stated the letter signed by House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and three other GOP leaders.

And Sen. Sam Brownback (search), R-Kan., told FOX News that he thinks Durbin's remarks are "clearly over the top."

3. I was just going to say that ... you beat me to it!
:toast:

These guys have no problem with a pResident who lied to take us to war, which resulted in the death of over 1,700 soldiers. But they're afraid Durbin's comments might send the wrong message to our soldiers?

THE WRONG MESSAGE?!?! So ... lying in order to put them in harm's way is the right message? :eyes: :grr:

4. Those maggots would condemn anybody who told any truth
Look for their letter soon condemning Jesus Christ for his "over the top" rhetoric about "turning the other cheek." This liberal progaganda clearly sends the wrong message to our enemies, who are dark skinned people who don't look like us or worship our white God.

20.  Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)
GOP senator compares Democrats to Hitler

By John Byrne | RAW STORY

Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) compared Democrats' attempts to keep the filibuster to Hitler's moves in 1942 in a floor speech in the Senate Thursday afternoon, RAW STORY has learned.

The following is a transcript of the particular section of the senator's floor speech, from the closed-captioned text taken by the Senate.

AND WE SHOULDN'T GO MUCKING AROUND IN THIS INSTITUTION AND CHANGING THE WAY WE'VE DONE THINGS,
PARTICULARLY WHEN IT COMES TO THE BALANCE OF POWERS BETWEEN THE THREE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT. AND THE INDEPENDENCE OF ONE OF THOSE BRANCHES OF THE JUDICIARY. WE MUST TREAD VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE WE GO RADICALLY CHANGING THE WAY WE DO THINGS THAT HAS SERVED THIS COUNTRY WELL, AND WE HAVE RADICALLY CHANGED THE WAY WE DO THINGS HERE. SOME ARE SUGGESTING WE'RE TRYING TO CHANGE THE LAW, WE'RE TRYING TO BREAK THE RULES. REMARKABLE. REMARKABLE HUBRIS. I MEAN, IMAGINE, THE RULE HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR 214 YEARS THAT THIS IS THE WAY WE CONFIRM JUDGES. BROKEN BY THE OTHER SIDE TWO YEARS AGO,

AND THE AUDACITY OF SOME MEMBERS TO STAND UP AND SAY, HOW DARE YOU BREAK THIS RULE.

IT'S THE EQUIVALENT OF ADOLF HITLER IN 1942 "I'M IN PARIS. HOW DARE YOU INVADE ME. HOW DARE YOU BOMB MY CITY? IT'S MINE." THIS IS NO MORE THE RULE OF THE SENATE THAN IT WAS THE RULE OF THE SENATE BEFORE NOT TO FILIBUSTER. IT WAS AN UNDERSTANDING AND AGREEMENT, AND IT HAS BEEN ABUSED. IN A SENSE, WHAT WE SEE HERE ON THE FLOOR OF THE UNITED STATES

26. It was interesting yesterday to hear a sports radio guy say
(and why he was commenting on a sports radio show, I don't know) that Republicans can pretty much say any over the top thing they like, and people eat it up (Repub people, at least) but if somebody like Howard Dean says something loud and strident, the Dems start crying and whining and worrying about people hating them and the comments hurting them yadda yadda. The sports guy's attitude seemed to be that the Dems should stop crying and that the Dems need to stop being so damn nice and play hardball.

Something like that, anyway. I found it interesting, considering where it was coming from. Surprised the hell out of me.
