I'm looking for an analogy....
Of why the American people can follow this charlatan to hell and back, accept all the lies, never question authority, praise him as a moral individual, send their sons and daughters to die for his lies, and reward him with four more years of his type of leadership? Is there anything analogous in the entire world? It's like.....?

2. It is like the German people followed an Austrian vagabond letting him
seize power, make himself the Supreme Ruler of the land, waged illegal wars throughout Europe, Asia and Africa and ruled with an iron fist. And, of course, assumed that his race was the best and all others were inferior.

7. Sort of like the sheep and the shepherd
The shepherd is nasty. He's fucking a different sheep every night. He gets drunk and the wolf picks off a couple of strays. See, he says you need me. Without me the wolf will eat you all. He's right, bleat the sheep. Without him we're lost. Meantime he's planning to have them sheared and sell them to a slaughter house. What a wonderful master, bleat the sheep. Best there ever was. Hey, anybody seen wolly-bugger?

(I like the sheep analogy too reminds me of H.G. Wells Time Machine and the gentle people, called Eloi who were raised as livestock for the cave-dwelling Morlocks.)

The Judas goat.
The Wizard of Oz.

Both mislead. Both could represent the media. The tool of those in power.

10. Joe McCarthy
As I posted the other day...
This sort of reminds me of those that followed Joe McCarthy and the "red scare". By playing on the people's fears and calling upon their nationalism...patriotism...he had a long run of lies and deception...

Until one day he heard these words:

"At long last Senator, have you no shame?"
From that point on the whole charade fell like a house of cards.

I can only hope that the President will hear the words...
"At long last Mr. President, you are under arrest."

14. It's sort of like ....
Someone is stealing your hens and eggs but the preacher is stopping by Sunday so you don't want to feel any hatred or animosity toward anyone. The preacher always makes you feel good because he knows just the right verses out of the Bible to make you feel better. You make dinner for him when he visits and you spend money you really don't have just to be hospitable. He pats you on the back and invites you to his church next Sunday. When he leaves, you notice you're missing more chickens and eggs??

16. Pied Piper
"...Fathers, mothers, uncles, cousins,
Cocking tails and pricking whiskers,
Families by tens and dozens,
Brothers, sisters, husbands, wives --
Followed the Piper for their lives.
From street to street he piped advancing,
And step for step they followed dancing,
Until they came to the river Weser
Wherein all plunged and perished!"

18. It's Like Commercials and "Gilligan's Island"
It's like a very bland TV show that has no relation to the real world, and that you can't even keep in mind 10 seconds after it leaves the screen. "We're at war," even though we here suffer no hardships, no tax increases except what the rich put on us as usual, no rationing, no draft, no media critcism, no end. "Bush broke the law and should be impeached," then, zzzzzz..."Cheney broke the law and should be impeached, because...zzzzzz.." DSM, Plame, Democrats locked out of, Pat Tillman, kill Amtrak--uh, "Kerry is a flip-flopper, that's it...," uh, all I remember anymore are flashing pictures, blah, blah. Dull, brain-dead, no history, no memory, only spin. Eventually, you can't get mad anymore; you can't even keep your mind on track.
