1. Keep your friends close
and your enemies closer. . .

it's hard not to think this is strategic in some way

but then again...

2. But then again, sometimes things are just like they seem
which in this case equates to the elites sticking with their own kind at the expense of the little people. Fuck Clinton and his wife - they're no good for this country.

4. Everyone thinks this is Clinton sidling up to the Bushes, but I think it's
the other way around.

The BFEE knows they're hated, and hopes a little of Clinton's popularity rubs off on them by association. All they care about are phot-ops, so having Clinton and Poppy together makes Poppy look good.

6. I agree - plus the Former Presidents Club is small and H W Bush is a war
hero and the right age to be the Dad Bill never had.

I thought H W Bush was a poor president - but I never thought him evil - unlike his son.

10. Huh?
"I thought H W Bush was a poor president - but I never thought him evil - unlike his son."

Perhaps look into the Carlyle Group and Project For A New American Century(PNAC) a little more.
Poppy Bu$h is an evil bastard too.
Don't kid yourself.

11. Your Response Was Perfect, IMO. Politics Isn't For The Squeamish
Clinton is a lot of things and NOT a lot of things.

He's NOT stupid.
He IS a Democrat who cares about America.

Somewheres in between those two things we can find the truth about why he's doing what he's doing.

12. Might be a good time to rent "Primary Colors"
The Clinton character in the film wasn't afraid to do things that made his advisor (literally) barf.

We're seeing just how true that fictional representation really is, now.

17. I'm beginng to think about all this in a different light.....I notice
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 09:03 PM by Gloria
that he croons of Bush 1, but never praises Bush 2. Oh, he once and awhile comments about a difficult Presidential decision, but for the most part, like on Letterman, he talks about the tsunami work and Bush 1. Notice also how he talks about how Barbara Bush almost calls him "son" and how he jokes about how they want another President in the family. Those are subtle jibes at Chimp and Jeb.

All the while, he appears affable, relaxed, at peace, etc. etc. while Chimpy seems to be falling apart, verbally and physically.

What I see is a huge "rehabilitation" campaign of Bill Clinton. The masses of Americans see a likable guy who isn't busting their current President, but who does slip in criticism that will get them wondering. For example, on Letterman, he talked about Bush having planned to go to war; Cheney going over to the CIA and it wasn't just for coffee; and not letting the UN inspectors finish the job. 1-2-3 delivered the most ACCESSIBLE points to the general public against Bush, ones that are easily understood by those who really don't get into the details...

Plus, he is doing good work in the world, has set up his Global Initiative, and is promoting better foreign relations both here at home and with our pissed of allies....in other words, helping pave the way if we get a Democrat in office in 2008 so that a new President will have the path smoothed, and some of the damage by Bush already undone.

Now, let's think about what a "rehabilitated" Clinton means in terms of the 2008 campaign. He can campaign where needed. Forget the longterm legacy for a moment. Think about immediate payoffs for a Democratic candidate if he doesn't have to run away from Clinton....

All that business with Bush 1 is also riling up the Republicans crazies more than it is really bothering most Democrats or the general public, who see it as almost "soothing" compared to the crap in DC. Chimpy himself must not be overly thrilled either. What a bonus that is!!

18. I wonder how the not so political folk view this..
cozy relationship? Most of us that are more into politics and progressives or lefties view this with a bit of disdain. In my view Bill and Hillary are pragmatists more than Dems, maybe even opportunists. They sure never seemed to be liberals.

20. Thank you
I didn't see the show. I had no idea he had said anything helpful on the war at all. Very weird what people choose to highlight. Weirder that they choose to ignore Bill Clinton repeating the exact talking points that we need repeated and should be spreading all over the internet. I'll have to try to find a transcript.

"he talked about Bush having planned to go to war; Cheney going over to the CIA and it wasn't just for coffee; and not letting the UN inspectors finish the job."

21. So what's your problem?
Clinton can do anything he damn well pleases even if it chaps your hide.

You seem to think that ALL Democrats must hate ALL Republicans and treat them like pariahs and to be openly hostile, all the time. They must NEVER negotiate, never agree on anything and above all---never socialize with them.

It's not uncommon for past presidents to be friends and it's particularly beneficial for Clinton right now to build some good will with the other side which may benefit the Democrats in the long run.

This is not uncommon so cool your jets and grow up.
