Rupert Murdoch, Rev. Moon, and a healthy dollop of tinfoil.
What's Rupert Murdoch up to with these leaked memos appearing in his papers? And why did Reverend Moon's UPI imply that 9-11 might have been an inside job? Is the most right-wing media suddenly the voice of truth?

Strap on your tinfoil hats - I've got a theory.

I think that the right-wing corporate fascists are planning to hang chimpy out to dry. He's been a useful tool for them, but he's always been just that - a tool. He's going to be the fall guy for this, and Cheney (the REAL criminal mastermind), along with Delay, Frist, Hastert, et al will be at the forefront of Dubyah's impeachment.

Hell, they'll probably give the wingnuts orgasms by declaring that Dubyah has "betrayed their party", and that in order to restore the integrity that the republicans have always stood for, they are bringing this criminal to justice.

Christ. It would be so easy for them to get the Chimpster to incriminate himself publicly - just drop a few sentences in his earpiece ("catapult the propaganda", anyone? )that make it appear as though HE was the one behind all this and that, like Oswald, he acted alone. The Republicans will execute his sorry ass (and install Cheney as President) juuuusssst as they're overturning the 22nd amendment.

It's all about the deniability, and allowing the wingnuts to keep their cognitive dissonance intact. And what better way to do that than by laying the blame for this mess, not at the feet of their party as a whole, but on the shoulders of the one man who's too stupid to realize what they're doing to him until it's too late?

Add to this the fact that the so-called "liberal" media has browbeaten into ignoring all of ShrubCo's crimes. If the Conservative outlets are the first in the "MSM" to call for W's head, it will boost their credibility in the eyes of the sheeple at the expense of the "complicit" NYT, LA Times, Wash Post, et al. If Fox News starts jumping on the DSM, watch out.

So as we all clamor for impeachment, let us all be veerrrry cautious that we know exactly what it is that we're wishing for.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled, tinfoil-free Sunday morning programming.

(A version of this paranoid theory was originally posted by me in the HaloScan comments at AmericaBlog.)

1. nope, couldn't happen, * Senior and Jebbie would NOT allow it.
He may be "as dumb as a stick" - but dammit he's their son and brother, respectively. No way with the * family Dynasty and their large share in Carlye, will they let ole' DUMB Dubya twist in the wind.

I think his Pre-Senile Dementia may be Dx as the 2008 election draws near and he'll retire to the ranch, golf and boating for the duration of his privileged life.

9. Really?
You think their family loyalty towards the Dim Son surpasses their greed and their lust for power?

In the Bush Crime Family, Dubyah's not Michael or Sonny. He's Fredo.

Maybe they'd just make sure that Dubyah got exiled to wherever Neil is hanging out these days, rather than executed. Or, maybe the plan is not for Cheney to be "presidente for life", but Jebby. Hell, with Cheney's ticker, that could all be factored in as part of the plan.

2. How many newspapers in the US does Murdoch own...
apart from the New York Post? He owns most of the Australian newspaper industry and a large chunk of the British game as well, and his editors know a good story when they get one.

It's not tinfoil at all - it's just that the journalist happened to be from the Times, and his editor ran with it. Some of the most damaging claims against John Howard have come from Murdoch's Australian papers, who have some very good journalists on their staff.

3. Catapult the propaganda
OMG I cant believe he said that.

They gotta stop having the "behind the scenes" briefings with him, where they explain framing and propoganda. He's such a happy puppet though, isnt he?

Rove: It's like a medieval war George, the message is the rotting diseased cow, you have to catapult the propaganda over peoples's curtain walls.

Bush: I get it, catapult the propaganda. Let's roll!

4. Cheney is too closely associated with Bush in the public mind....
fot that to work, I think. They see the Bush Adminstration as a whole (at
least I hope they do).

That they are about to cut Bush lose would not be surprising though. He
is rapidly becoming a liability.

6. And what better way to disassociate himself...
... from Bush? Hell, WE know he's really the power behind the throne, but the sheeple? Christ, most of them can't even tell you who the Vice-President IS.

Also, imagine the rhetoric from the RW talkers (Rush, Hannity, et al.) if the Republicans actually impeached his sorry ass.

"See? The Republican Party is the ONLY PARTY that holds their leaders accountable! Nixon resigned because the REPUBLICANS told him that they would vote to impeach him! Unlike the filthy DEMOCRATS, who voted in lockstep to protect CLINTON!!!"

Gah. I can just hear those bastards now.

10. Good points, all....
and it might work.

But most people don't have good feelings about someone who turns on
their former allies, and those who like Bush do so for irrational, highly
emotional reasons: they just like him. Cheney rarely illicits that response.

If the Right tries the "see, we are being responsible and impeaching our
loser", which they would certainly try, they would still have a hard time
erasing the memories of how they supported every assinine thing he
did, IMO.

Welcome to DU, by the way!

12. Thanks for the welcome!
And I agree that any rational person would look at their actions and give a hearty "WTF?!?!"

However, we're talking about two groups for whom rationality doesn't enter the picture.

a) The republican base, who could absolve themselves of all guilt by laying it on chimpy, not the party (and by extension, themselves)

and

b) The mind-numbed zombies collectively known as the Apathetic American Citizenry, who will believe whatever's on the TEE-vee this week, if Ryan Seacrest tells them to.

5. I don't believe that anyone would believe
that darth vader didn't know - not that truth and reality mean sh-- to them. But I hope that would be too much for even the uninformed who voted for them to believe. Perhaps they will hang cheney by his thumbs (he loves Gitmo so much) and the idiot son will say he was duped. That would be more believable. :

7. Or, could just be Rupert seeking to cover his capitalistic ass,...
,...in face of the impending downfall of the crooks-in-charge. There is AMPLE evidence that the BushCo/neoCON cabal were in this thing together. Jr. simply can NOT be wielded into a patsy under the circumstances. The whole lot of them are conspirators in defrauding the government and our people.

I'm just waiting for the assertions of treason to come flooding in. After all, this cabal endangered US economic and security interests in order to advance the geopolitical interests of another nation. That is bad, bad, bad!!!!

And haven't we spent the last 4.5 years bitching about how that evidence has been ignored by the press?

Stop 10 strangers on the street and ask them what they know about the DSM. Then come back and tell me about how there's "too much evidence". We're talking about the American Public here! Helloooo! Is this thing on?

"Dammit, they're interrupting my soap for those stupid hearings again! I'm calling the station!!!"

14. Finally someone thinking strategically.
The goal should be to WIN CONGRESS in 2006. Impeachement achieves nothing in practical terms. Use the Downing minutes to expose the CORRUPTION, ALLOWED and in many cases ABETTED by this Congress and we stand a chance to clean house.

15. Murdoch doesn't like Blair and would like to see him replaced by a
conservative. That, IMO, is why the DSM was leaked in the Murdoch papers right before the British election. It didn't do the whole job, but the Labor Party lost a lot of seats.

16. Except....
... that the Conservatives were even MORE hard-core pro-war than Labour, if I recall correctly. I understand wanting to hurt Blair, but it does nothing to help the Conservatives in the long-run, does it? Publishing memos that vindicate George Galloway and the UK anti-war crowd?

Unless the Conservatives ALSO started beating the drum that THEY were taken in by Bush & Blair's lies, and would certainly not have supported an illegal invasion were they not duped!! I'm telling you, that's gonna be the Judo that the right-wing in both countries will have to use to reverse this. Our population is dumb enough to buy it, is Britain's?

Hey, I'm just thinkin' out loud here. And trying to dull Occam's razor whenever I can, as all conspiracy-minded folk are wont to do. :tinfoilhat:
