Voinovich votes against cloture
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 05:13 PM by jmaier
No details on the totals yet but it is unlikely to pass. I haven't heard any Dem defections.

4. IIRC, Hagel voted for it.
I believe I heard that Hagel voted for it along with Chafee (how, IIRC, had been rumoured to be against Bolton).

He likes Alberto Gonzales, too.

How come so many Dems don't respect the Senate?

12. It matters.
What Bush does is on him.

What the Senate does is on THEM.

Bush isn't running again.

24. I respectfully disagree:
If Bush appoints him as a recess appointment, wouldn't his credibility be damaged because he doesn't have approval of the Congress?

Granted Bush could care less about it, but in the rest of the world I'd imagine he'd be damaged goods.

I think it would be a victory against evil if the cloture vote fails, but that is just me.

61. Yeah, but * could say that
Bolton does have the Senate's approval by a 54-38 vote. You know he'll twist it and make it sound like with that much approval it's the democrats obstruction thats keeping him out. I wouldn't put anything past *

9. more
We just gained George Voinovich, who favored cloture last time.

We also kept Senator Joseph Lieberman whom the White House was furiously courting.

The White House is losing more ground than expected.

Who chose not to vote and why? Gloria Borger reported tonight on CBS Evening News that one of the names leaked tonight that Democrats think is on the list of those Bolton was spying on was Colin Powell!

A very interesting note tonight from CBS's Gloria Borger who said that it was leaked tonight that the Democrats think Colin Powell is on the list of those Bolton was spying on--the same list that the Bush White House will not give the Democrats on the committee.

67. sometimes they pair up with a gop who will vote the other way if one
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 07:53 PM by Pepperbelly
or the other has a very valid reason for not being there ... like when Bill had surgery and Hillary stayed with him, if there were votes, she would've have paired with a gop who would vote opposite and both of them would not vote. It keeps the margins the same. If the votes matter and the one vote or the other will make a difference, they won't pair. Otherwise, it's common decency.

on edit, there were 5 Democrats who did not vote and three gops. If all had showed, it would not have affected the outcome whatsoever.
